HRANA News Agency – Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi, a prisoner of conscience in Evin prison, who was sent on medical leave at the beginning of his eleventh year of imprisonment for the first time is busy with the medical tests and treatments for his illnesses caused by long term imprisonment. This is a report of his treatment process.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), following the severe disease of Seyed Mohammad Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi, prisoner of conscience in Evin prison, he was sent on medical leave on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 on “heavy conditions” set by the Special Clerical Court, including a bail of three billion IRR and two guarantors.
A close source to Mr. Boroujerdi said that his house was under surveillance by the security forces and restrictions on communications were imposed and told HRANA’s reporter: “He has had various types of medical tests, including; blood and urine tests, MRI scan, CT scans, dental tests, ECG, EMG for his muscles, X ray from his waist, respiratory and lungs and oxygen tests, and ophthalmology diagnostic procedures”.
The source continued: “He has severe back pain and leg pain and numbness and tingling in the limbs and inability to walk and problem with his daily activities. The tests that have been done for his treatment are MRI scan from his spinal nerves and EMG, and some other tests. According to a neurosurgeon and spine specialist, the radiographic examination of the spine, neck, chest and back were clearly evidenced by severe arthritis, and the EMG shows polyradiculopathy.”
According to this doctor, due to the pressure on the spine, as a result of torture and beatings as well as intensive forced labor, and inappropriate use of spinal he has got hernia and spinal stenosis. Disc hernia and spinal stenosis are clearly shown in the MRI scan, and he has pain due to tightness of his spinal canal which puts pressure on his leg’s nerves such as sciatica nerves. According to the results of MRI scan and EMG and the degree of stenosis and lumbar and cervical disc herniation, the surgical treatment is required”.
The source close to Mr. Boroujerdi emphasized that: “According to this doctor, crooked gait and inability to walk and numbness and tingling in the limbs are related to the spinal canal problems, but swollen legs suggest the cardiovascular or kidney’s serious problems, which should be considered fully and super specialty in term of cardiovascular and renal issues.”
HRANA had reported earlier that, following the deterioration of health condition of Seyed Mohammad Hossein Kazemeini Boroujerdi, prison authorities transferred him to an unknown hospital as an emergency case on Sunday, January 1, 2017.
Mr. Kazemeini Boroujerdi had been suffering from “severe bone pain” and had been transferred to infirmary of Evin prison for several times, but has been sent to ward 325-A of the clergy without appropriate treatment.
This prisoner of conscience has got heart and lung problems due to mistreatment during his imprisonment and poor condition of the environment in long term imprisonment, nevertheless, Mr. Boroujerdi has been deprived of proper medical care. Mr. Boroujerdi has got joints and bones pain and also arteries.
Ayatollah Boroujerdi, who had been arrested and imprisoned in 1995, 2000 and 2005, and had been released, last time was arrested in 2006 and was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment and confiscation of his properties.
He was kept in Yazd prison for a year and then was transferred to Evin prison.
HRANA had reported in April last year that a new case had been opened against this prisoner of conscience.
