HRANA News Agency – Ahmad Karimi, political prisoner is about to start the eighth year of his imprisonment in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, while he has not had any furlough during this period of time. Mr. Karimi is in an uncertain situation waiting for the outcome of his appeal.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), the appeal made by Ahmad Karimi, political prisoner in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj who have been arrested in March 2009, is being treated by the Tehran prosecutor.

This political prisoner, who had been exiled to Gonbad Kawoos prison, has got severe tooth decay due to lack of sanitary and medical facilities. He has to pay a lot for his medical care as he does not have insurance and also, in contrary to the judicial authorities’ claims, the prisoner’s insurance does not support medical care properly, so that he has not been able to get treatment due to his financial condition and therefor he is experiencing gastric problems.

Ahmad Karimi was arrested in May 2009, more than one month before the presidential elections in 2009. After spending more than one month in the solitary confinement in ward 209 in Evin prison, he was forced to attend the court show after the elections of 2009 and on charge of playing a role in post-election protests, was sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Tehran. The sentence was reduced on appeal court to 15 years of imprisonment in exile.

This political prisoner spent about 6 years of his sentence in Gonbad Kawoos in exile and in early months of this year he was transferred to Rajai Shahr prison, where his family believe his situation, in term of his mental condition and family visit, has improved.

HRANA had reported previously that the family of Ahmad Karimi had not visited him for more than 4 months due to the distance between Islamshahr and Gonbad Kawoos, and had no news about his condition.

Karimi, who was arrested by the security forces’ raid to his home at a night in May 2009, faced the charge of holding connection with the Kingdom Assembly of Iran. In this case, some people like Mohammad Reza Ali Zamani, Arash Rahmanpour, Peyman Arefi and Hamed Rouhinejad also are involved.

He is held in Hall 10 of Rajai Shahr in an uncertain condition, waiting for the outcome of his appeal, by the Tehran persecutor.
