Ayatollah Mohammadreza Nekounam Released from Qom Prison

HRANA News Agency – Ayatollah Mohammadreza Nekounam, imprisoned cleric was released from coastal prison of Qom on June 23. Various sources have declared the parole or the furlough as the reason of releasing him from the prison.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Ayatollah Mohammadreza Nekounam, seminary professor was released from the coastal prison of Qom on June 23. It is unclear that the releasing was due to furlough or parole.
Ayatollah Mohammadreza Nekounam, imprisoned cleric and critic of the supreme leader who is suffering from multiple diseases was held in Qom prison for a sentence of 5 years in prison 18 months of which he had already served.
He was arrested in the wake of a critical speech by the complaints of several students and was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Special Court for the Clergy.
It should be noted that HRANA in a detailed report about the Shiite reference prisoner and his medical condition and case had published the relevant documents.
An informed source told HRANA’s reporter about exert new pressures by the Special Clerical Court:  “Special Clerical Court have doubled pressure on the critical cleric to stop all his activities. Pressures such as dispersing his students, collecting his all books from the bookstores, as well as seizing his book caches. Special Clerical Court stepped up all the pressures on Ayatollah and his students to stop his position.”
The source said about the physical condition of Mr. Nekounam: “His physical condition is not suitable, he suffers from the consequences of a stroke due to lack of proper treatment after stroke in prison.”
He also stated: “In addition to complications from stroke, his blood pressure and sugar level also have become a problem for him. For several years he suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure that his sugar and blood pressure have increased dramatically in about 18 months in prison because of the pressures of stress and anxiety in prison and high level of salt and fatty in the prison food.”
Sources close to Ayatollah Nekounam said about his conditions: “He is in the Coast prison of Qom, the clerical section. The special section always monitored him to not be in contact with anybody. He was assigned to be in prison despite complications of stroke and blood sugar and blood pressure. In addition, according to the Qom forensics which confirmed his stroke, over the entire period his food should be provided from outside the prison, unfortunately, these terms were not respected by the Special Clerical Court and Ayatollah Nekounam had no choice except consuming fatty and salty food in prison which led to unprecedented increase in his blood pressure.”
