Beaten Because I Stopped Using Drugs

HRANA News Agency – On Thursday, June 23, 2011, the police beat and battered a citizen in one of the parks in Tehran Pars, an eastern neighborhood of Tehran metropolitan area.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), while the implementation of the Moral Security Plan is in progress throughout Iran, law enforcement officers beat a citizen because he told them that he was a recovering addict.HRANA is protecting this citizen’s identity.

In an interview with HRANA, this individual said, “Yesterday, when I was sitting on one of the benches in the park and just looked at the police officers, they approached me and in a condescending voice asked, ‘What are you looking at?’Then they took me to the police mobile command center where they gave me a full body search.”

“The police officers asked me what drug I was using. I replied that I no longer used any drugs.When they heard my answer, they began shouting and cursing and said that since I had stopped using drugs, I had to be beaten.Then they began beating me,” he added.
