The Latest List of the Prisoners in Women’s Ward of Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – In women’s ward of Evin prison, there are many mothers who are imprisoned with political and security charges. They are being kept in an inappropriate condition and without having sufficient phone call time, and very limited visits. The condition of this ward resulted in spreading of women and different diseases among the prisoners.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), currently 23 female prisoners, mainly with political and security charges are being kept in women’s ward of Evin prison.

The condition of this ward is reported to be even worse than before, in which no detergent or disinfectants are being given to the prisoners and despite the prisoner’s follow ups, authorities responded that “prison organization is under sanctions and we do not have the budget”.

In addition, despite the abundance of insects and vermin and pollution of environment in this ward, no spraying has been done since March, which has turned the ward into a place for all type of insects and animals like mice.

Currently 23 prisoners are being kept in this ward about whom you can read in the following report:

Afarin Chitsaz – 42 years old

Charge: Collusion against the regime

Sentence: 2 years in prison

Description: Arrested in February 2016, and after one months and a half in solitary confinement in ward 2-A sent to women’s ward

Zahra Sharifi (Agha Abdulhossain Tehrani) – 44 years old

Charge: Sacrilege

Sentence: Not issued

Description: Arrested in March 2016 and after 45 days in solitary confinement in ward 209 sent to women’s ward

Mayram (Nasim) Naghash Zargaran – 38 years old / single

Charge: Collusion against the regime by funding a house-church

Sentence: 4 years in prison

Description: Released by the end of her sentence

Atena (Fatemeh) Daemi – 29 years old / single

Charge: Collusion against the regime and insulting the supreme leader

Sentence: 7 years in prison

Description: Arrested on October 21, 2014 and after 86 days in solitary confinement in ward 2-A transferred to women’s ward on January 14, 2015. Judge Moghiseh in branch number 28 of the revolutionary court sentenced her to 14 years in prison on May 15, 2015. On February 15, 2016, she was released on a bail of 5500 million IRR and on September 28, 2016, her sentence was reduced in the appeal court to 7 years in prison.  She was arrested on November 26 in her father’s house without receiving any notice. She was informed orally that article 134 had been applied to her sentence and it was reduced to 5 years, but it is not shown in her prison registration note

Nooshindokht Mirabdulbaghi – 64 years old / single

Charge: Acts against the national security (2 times), collusion against the regime (2 times), sacrilege (2 times), propaganda against the regime (2 times), spreading lies (2 times)

Sentence: 34 years and 9 months

Description: Arrested on February 16, 2014, by intelligence service and transferred to the ward after one month. In May 2015 was released on a bail of 2 billion IRR until her trial. Judge Ahmadzadeh in branch 26 of the revolutionary court, counted all of the charges twice because she had continued her activities while being free on the bail. On November 16, 2016, she was arrested and transferred to the women’s ward. She is suffering from schizophrenia and had been hospitalized in 2002. She has received exemption from serving the sentence due to her age, but is still being kept in the prison.

Narges Mohammadi – 45 years old / mother

Charge: collusion & propaganda against the regime (previous case), establishing illegal LEGAM group & collusion and propaganda against the regime (new case)

Sentence: 16 years plus 6 years (from the old case)

Description: Arrested in June 2010 and kept in ward 209 in solitary confinement until July. She was released on a bail of 100 million IRR. She was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2011, which was reduced to conditional 6 years of imprisonment in the appeal court. In May 2014 she was again arrested and multiple new cases were opened for her. She has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in her new case. She is diagnosed with pulmonary embolism, and crippling muscle.

Maryam Akbari Monfared – 41 years old / mother

Charge: 15 years in prison

Sentence: waging war by advocacy of Mojahedin-e-Khalgh organization

Description: Arrested on 31 December 2009, and after 2 months in solitary confinement in 209, first transferred to methadone ward and then in March to women’s ward. She was exiled to Rajaei Shahr and then to Gharchak prison in May 2011. Mrs. Akbari who is suffering from thyroid and rheumatoid arthritis was transferred to women’s ward in May 2011. She has been deprived of furlough and has three children. Her brother, Reza Akbari Monfared is being kept in Rajaei Shahr prison.

Fatemeh Mosanna – 47 years old / mother

Charge: Waging war by advocacy of Mojahedi-e-Khalgh organization

Sentence: 15 years in prison

Description: Arrested on January 28, 2013, and after 75 days in solitary confinement of ward 209, was transferred to women’s ward. She was released on a bail of 2 billion IRR on January 13, 2014. Judge Ahmadzadeh in branch number 26 of the revolutionary court, sentenced her and her husband to 15 years in prison. Again she was arrested and transferred to women’s ward on September 30, 2015, in order to serve her sentence. She had been arrested when she was 13 with her family and served 2 years in prison. Her juvenile son was also arrested in 2012. Currently, convenience store of Mr. Sadeghi has been confiscated and the authorities are in the process of confiscating his house, where currently his son and daughter are living with their ill grandmother, who served 5 years in prison in 1980s. Mrs. Mosanna has been deprived of furlough and suffers from intestinal colitis and severe migraine.

Zahra Zehtabchi – 47 years old / mother

Charge: Waging war by advocacy of Mojahedin-e-Khalgh organization

Sentence: 10 years in prison

Description: She was arrested along with her daughter and husband on October 16, 2013, and after 14 months in solitary confinement of ward 209, transferred to women’s ward. On December 8, 2014, she was sentenced to 12 years in prison in branch number 15 of the revolutionary court. After a year her sentence was reduced to 10 years in prison. She has been deprived of furlough.

Mahvash Shahriary Sabet – 64 years old / mother

Charge: Being a member in Yaran organization (Bahai organization)

Sentence: 10 years in prison

Description: Released after serving her sentence.

Fariba Kamalabadi – 55 years old / mother

Charge: Being a member in Yaran organization (Bahai organization)

Sentence: 10 years in prison

Description: Arrested on May 14, 2008, in Tehran and held for 27 months in solitary confinement in ward 209. In August 2010, along with 6 other members of Yaran, she was sentenced by judge Moghiseh in branch number 28 of the revolutionary court to 20 years in prison, and exiled to Rajaei Shahr prison along with Mahvash Shahriari. In May 2011 she was transferred to Gharchak prison and after a week transferred to women’s ward. In 2015 her sentence was reduced to 10 years in prison. Mrs. Kamalabadi is suffering from lumbar disc and has received only one furlough so far.

Elham Barmaki – 47 years old / mother

Charge: Espionage

Sentence: 10 years in prison

Description: Arrested on December 28, 2011, in the street and spent 3 months in solitary confinement of ward 209. She was released on the bail and sentenced by judge Moghiseh in branch number 28 of the revolutionary court to 10 years in prison and 25’000 Euro, 70’000 $, and 400 million IRR fines, which is a total of 3 billion IRR. Again she was arrested on July 23, 2012 and after 14 months in solitary confinement of ward 209, sent was to women’s ward on September 29, 2013. She has a child and is a citizen of Cyprus citizenship. She suffers from lumbar disc and arthritis.

Roya Saberi Nejad Nobakht – 52 years old / married

Charge: Sacrilege and insulting head of the parliament, government and judiciary

Sentence: 4 years in prison

Description: Arrested on September 28, 2013, in Shiraz, and transferred to solitary confinement of ward 209 and was kept there for 2 months. Then she was exiled to Gharchak detention centre. After one year and a half, including 6 months in the quarantine ward finally in May 2015 she was transferred to women’s ward. She has British citizenship and her husband is residing in UK. She was sentenced to 18 years, three months, and one day in prison, in branch number 28 of the revolutionary court. This sentence was reduced to 4 years. She is suffering from mental illness and has been deprived of furlough.

Negara Karimova (Afsharzadeh) – 39 years old / mother

Charge: Espionage (still being under investigation by HRANA)

Sentence: Not decided

Description: Mrs. Karimova is an Azerbaijani citizen and was arrested in December 2013, and transferred to ward 209 in Evin prison. She had been kept there for one year and three months. She was transferred to women’s ward in Evin on July 5, 2016. This prisoner travelled from Turkmenistan to Iran in order to be with her daughter. She has two children who are in Turkmenistan and haven’t had any visits during past two years.

Elham Farahani – 55 years old / mother

Charge: propaganda against the regime by membership in a Bahai organization

Sentence: 4 years in prison

Description: Arrested along with her husband, Adel Naimi on July 11, 2012. After less than 10 days, their son Shamim Naimi was also arrested. She was kept for two months in solitary confinement of ward 209 and then released temporarily on a bail of 1 billion IRR along with their son. Mrs. Farahani, her husband and her son, all received their sentences in a 5-minute long trial, and she was sentenced to 4 years in prison, in branch number 28 of the revolutionary court by judge Moghiseh. Adel Naimi was sentenced to 10 years and Shamim Naimi was sentenced to 3 years in prison. She is currently hospitalized in Jam hospital for elbow surgery operation. Due to refusal of wearing prison uniform and usage of handcuffs and shackles, this family did not have visits during past two months.

Maryam Olangy – 54 years old

Charge: Advocacy of Mojahedin-e-Khalgh organization

Sentence: 2 years in prison

Description: Arrested on October 10, 2009 and temporarily released on the bail of 2 billion IRR, on December 16. Judge Salavati in branch number 15 of the revolutionary court sentenced her to 2 years in prison. She was arrested and transferred to women’s ward on July 26, 2016, without receiving any court notice. He husband, Mohsen Dogmehchi was in prison for the same charges and died due to medical negligence.

Azita Rafizadeh – 35 years old / mother

Charge: Acting against the national security by working in the on-line Bahai University

Sentence: 4 years in prison

Description: On May 22, 2011, security forces raided her house, but just seized some electronic and communication devices, without arresting her and her husband. Then Mrs. Rafizadeh was summoned to the intelligence office and received the letter of withdrawal of prosecution in September 2011. But that case again started to be processed in February 2012 and she was summoned to Shahid Moghadas court, and released on a bail of 500 million IRR. Branch number 28 of the revolutionary court sentenced her to 4 years in prison in May 2014. Mrs. Rafizadeh summited herself to prison on October 25, 2014 in order to serve her sentence. Her husband, Paiman Kooshkbaghi who is currently serving his 5 years of imprisonment sentence in Rajaei Shahr prison, has been deprived of visiting his wife, due to his refusal to wear prison uniform and usage of handcuffs and shackles. This couple have a 6-year-old son.

Nasim Bagheri – 35 years old / single

Charge: Acting against the national security by working in the on-line Bahai University

Sentence: 4 years in prison

Description: On May 22, 2011, security forces raided her house, but just seized some electronic and communication devices, without arresting her. She was summoned for interrogations the next day to the intelligence office. In February 2013 she was summoned to Shahid Moghadas court and temporarily released on the bail of 50 million IRR. On October 8, 2013, judge Moghiseh in branch number 28 of the revolutionary court, sentenced her to 4 years in prison and she was arrested and transferred to women’s ward on April 27, 2014 in order to serve her sentence. She is suffering from thyroids and has been deprived of furlough.

Golrokh Ibrahimi Irai – 36 years old / married

Charge: Sacrilege

Sentence: 6 years in prison (she is orally informed that article 134 has been applied to her sentence and it was reduced to 5 years, but it is not shown in her prison registration form yet)

Description: She was arrested along with her husband, Arash Sadeghi on September 6, 2014, and after being kept for two days in the IRGC’s safe house, and 20 days in solitary confinement in ward 2-A, she was released on the bail of 800 million IRR. Judge Salavati sentenced her in absentia to 6 years in prison, while she was undertaking a surgery operation. Sarallah corps forces raided her house and arrested her on October 24, without any court order. Her husband was also arrested without any court order, and sent to Evin prison, in order to serve his 19 years of imprisonment sentence. He is currently being kept in ward number 350 of Evin prison.

Sotoode Fazel – 65 years old / mother

Charge: Waging war by advocacy of Mojahedin-e-Khalgh Organization

Sentence: 3 years in prison

Description: Arrested in February 2010 and released on the bail in April 2010. Mrs. Fazel was sentenced to 3 years in prison in branch number 15 of the revolutionary court by judge Salavati and arrested and transferred to Evin prison, in June 2016 in order to serve her sentence. She is suffering from different diseases like eye strain and paresis, and has been deprived of furlough. She is waiting for the appeal court’s date.

Afarin Naisari

Charges: possession of alcoholic beverages in house, contacting foreign diplomats, espionage and cooperation with enemies, hiring spy by a foreign embassy, colliding against the national security

Sentence: Afarin Nasari was arrested on July 20, 2016. Ms. Naisari was charged along with her husband Karen Vafadari, to possession of alcoholic beverages, meeting with foreign diplomats, espionage and cooperation with enemies of the state, and even naming their house as brothel, but in their new court session with presiding judge Salavati, they were charged with trying to regime change, hiring spy by the help of foreign embassies, collusion against the national security.
