HRANA News Agency – Maryam Akbari Monfared, political prisoner, is still deprived of having furlough and receiving medical treatment, while serving the 6th year in prison.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Maryam Akbari Monfared, political prisoner and one the protesting citizens to the results of the presidential elections in 2009, is still deprived of furlough and receiving medical treatment.
Jafari, the husband of this political prisoner told HRANA’s reporter regarding her health condition, “She is not well. She is sick”. He continued regarding judiciary response to her wife’s condition, “I want to book a doctor appointment. They are harassing us. Two weeks ago I summited a letter to send her for medical test. They did not send her again. Todays I have to meet with the persecutor assistant of the prison, Mr. Khodabakhsh to see if he would let us see him in two weeks or not. They are harassing us”.
Maryam Akbari Monfared has three daughters. Her husband told HRANA’s reporter in this regard “She has three children. My youngest child was 4 when her mother was arrested and now she is 10. My eldest child sees other children has mother and she does not. I swear to God, we were begging for two hours of visit, because my daughter had general university entrance exam”.
Jafari answered to the question regarding whether or not this political prisoner could receive any furlough, “Since 2009 she did not had even one day of furlough. I put more than a billion bail for two years, but they did not give her furlough. They themselves told us to put bail. I put one billion and hundred and fifty million Tomans bail for two years. But they did not give her furlough”.
He continued with concern, “we should be persisting till we get an answer. If they do not give answer this week, we should go next week. We should go until they start following up her issues. It cannot be neglected. She is sick. Her dental procedure is not finished. She is sick and has lot much weight. The maximum thing that we could do was her 7 or 6-day-transfer to Milad hospital for Gallbladder surgery operation”.
Maryam Akbari Monfared who was arrested in January 2010 and following the 2009 presidential elections, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in branch number 15 of the revolutionary court by chief judge Salavati, on June 1, 2010. She has been charged with belligerence by being a member of PMOI. This allegation has been rejected by her many times.
Akbari Monfared had been transferred to Gharchak prison in Varamin along with 8 others in May 2011. After protesting against the prison’s condition and writing many letters to the officials, Ayatollahs, and Ahmed Shaheed, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Condition in Iran, she was transferred to women’s ward of Evin prison and since then serving her sentence there. Her two brothers were executed during the mass executions of 1982-83 and her younger brother and sister were executed on another wave of mass execution in the summer of 1988. Akbari Monfared had stated in a letter to Ahmed Shaheed a quote from Judge Salavati, “you are suffering in behalf of your brothers and sister”.
