Maryam Naghash Zargaran Returned to Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Maryam (Nasim) Naghash Zargaran, returned to Evin Prison due to opposition to an extension of her leave by the Prosecutor despite not finishing her medical treatment process. The Prosecutor has rejected her request for a parole, too.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Maryam (Nasim) Naghash Zargaran, returned to Evin Prison after her medical furlough was not extended.

Maryam (Nasim) Naghash Zargaran, a Christian and ill prisoner of women’s ward in Evin prison was sent to an extendable medical furlough on Tuesday, August 28.

A close source to Zargaran family said: “The Prosecutor’s Office refused to extend her leave while her treatment process was not completed.”

Previously Ms. Zargaran had started a hunger strike for the second time on July 5, which she ended after 27 days by the promises of the authorities.

On July 10, Ms. Naghash Zargaran published a letter with the title of “It is the time to break my three years of silence” on the sixth day of her hunger strike and spoke about her arrest and illegal interrogation and emphasized on the continuous injustices in her case.

Maryam (Nasim) Naghash Zargaran had been sent to furlough from Evin Prison on the eleventh day of her hunger strike on June 6. She broke her hunger strike by the requests of her family and friends without reaching all her demands. And then went back to Evin prison midway through her treatment as attorney general refused to extend her furlough and threatened to confiscate the bail collateral.

Nasim Zargaran has been diagnosed with ASD and had a heart operation 9 years ago and needs constant medical care. Besides, her hands and legs get numb and she suffers from chronic joints and spine pain during last year. She was ordered to have 5 days of hospitalization and immediate physiotherapy sessions which was denied by the prosecutor and she is still suffering from the pain. Ms. Zargaran has also been diagnosed with severe anemia, diabetes, and high blood cholesterol after the arrest, but due to rejection of her requests, the treatments have been halted.

Maryam (Nasim) Naghash Zargaran was summoned to intelligence office for the first time in February 2011 and was interrogated. These interrogations which were accompanied by threatening and harassing her family members and happened in unofficial locations, continued around the subject of home churches.

Finally, she was summoned by the security police on the phone and was arrested, Saeid Abedini, Iranian-American citizen who came back to Iran for foundation of an orphanage in North of Iran was arrested, too. On the same day her father’s house was investigated by the police and her books, religious pamphlets and personal accessories were seized.

She was transferred to Evin prison in order to be finger printed and then transferred to Vozara building without any charges. She was kept there for 5 days and nights with minimum facilities for living and was interrogated there. The main topic of the interrogations was home-churches, reason of increasing number of them, their members and quality of rituals in these churches.

Ms. Zargaran was transferred to Evin prison and in branch number 2 of Shahid Moghadas charged with propaganda against the regime.

After 19 days of being under temporary arrest, she was released on the bail of 700 million IRR. She was sentenced to 4 years in prison in branch number 28 of the revolutionary court by judge Moghiseh, on charge of collusion and acts against the national security. This is while she never had a hearing about this allegation.
