Nader Dastanpour’s Family Denies Col. Mohammad Jalini’s Claims

HRANA News Agency – Col. Mohammad Jalini, Chief of Police Station 127 in Narmak, in response to the HRANA’s report on the death of a detained citizen as a result of being beaten in custody and lack of medical care during detention at this police station, claimed that the detainee was an “evil” and had fought with police forces. He also claimed that Mr. Dastanpour has had mental problems.
Dastanpour family reacted to these claims in an interview with HRANA and rejected the claims of Chief of Narmak Police Station and said: “The officers entered our house without a warrant and beat Nader and despite his serious condition, they did not care till he died in the detention. They took him to Chamran hospital without legal registration of his body. There are local witnesses’ statements and the record of contacts that had been done, in this regard.” Dastanpour family emphasized that they have registered a complaint for prosecution of those who have “murdered” their son.
According to the report of the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), the Chief of the Police Station, in response to a report published by HRANA regarding the story of the ambiguous death of Nader Dastanpour, in detention of Narmak police station number 127, has announced that he had a history of psychological problem, history of evil acts and was drunk at the time as he was arrested and had died in detention as a result disease. But Nader Dastanpour’s family rejects these claims.
Dastanpour family by rejecting Colonel Mohammad Jalini’s claims that “the inmate was thugs” and also that he had died as a result of “psychological problems”, and said: “At the very beginning we contacted the Inspector General of Police on 197 and told them that a number of officers wanted to come forcibly to our home without a warrant. This call is recorded.” Dastanpour family also stresses that Nader was an athlete and he had a good reputation among all our neighbors. This citizen of Tehran got brain damages because of being beaten by officers while being arrested and was not transferred to a hospital from police custody in NARMAK police station 127, so he lost his life.
Dastanpour family in a conversation with HRANA’s reporter, by rejecting the claims made by Chief of police station 127 of Narmak, has announced that “the perpetrators of this crime are; Mr. Torabian, the head of the Branch seven of interrogation in zone 4 due to refusing to transfer Nader Dastanpour to hospital, and Major Mehdi Rabii and eight other officers involved in beating him at the house.”
A member of Dastanpour family in response to Colonel Mohammad Jalini’s claims that before the attack, Nader and his brother had fought with a police officer, by telling that they had contacted the 197, the Inspector General of Police, when the officers had gone to their door, said: “First of all I need to say the exact dates of these events. The guards attacked the house on June 16, at 1 pm and Nader’s death was at 6 pm on the next day, June 17, contrary to the Chief of police’s claims who said that the date was June 28. It is normal and obvious that such a claim is raised by the Chief of Police, to cover this crime. Nader and his father came home at around 3-4 am, because they are shopkeepers and they slept until 1 pm, when the officers entered the house.”
The agents came to the door and said Nader’s elder brother that ‘you have complainant and you should come with us to the police station.’ He asked them for a warrant which they did not have. After that, the officers’ number increased and they forcibly entered the house without a warrant. While, Nader and his father were asleep. That day, Nader was not out of the house at all. When they started to beat Nader and his brother with using tear gas, their father protested, so they handcuffed him and in his presence they beat Nader with batons and boots on the head and face. Nader was sleeping and he had not seen the officers before. The family dialed 197 when the officers entered and announced that some police officers without a warrant had entered their house. This call is recorded.”
He also added in relation to the Chief’s claim that Nader was suffering from mental problems, according to his father, said: “First, suppose that someone has mental problems, should thus be beaten and attacked at his house? Second, Nader had no problems. When they were transferred to the police station, the Chief gave some papers to their father and asked him to sign and told him those were for their freedom. But his eyes were hit with tear gas and he signed the papers without knowing what those were. It is possible that they have added such a lie to those papers. The father strongly denies that he has said that Nader had mental problems.”
That member of Dastanpour family also about the claim that “the accused was rabble”, emphasized: “Nader was an athlete. He had a good reputation among all of the neighbors. To clarify public opinion, I am saying that he used to go to the Aiten gym in Narmak. Everyone can go and ask if there are any doubts. The shop is in Narmak Taslihat Square and all the people there know him as a good character. There is no need to discuss the so-called thugs, and it just has been raised to justify the crimes. The criterion is the public opinion, and they can ask locals whether Nader was evil or not. Whether, Nader had mental problems or not.”
He also said: “Let’s suppose what Chief said is true. Does it legitimize those crimes such as breaking the house door and entering the house without a warrant and even more painful, tying the father’s hands and beating his son to death in front of him? For 28 hours they kept him in prison to die bit by bit. Is there any worse crime? His family expects the worst of these stories and lies that may pose in the future to justify their crimes.”
The family member referred to Colonel Mohammad Jalini saying that Nader and his brother were exercising in the detention and also noted: “What the Chief has said is also in contradiction with his previous claims that he had mental problems and so on. The main question is why they took Nader’s corpse to Chamran hospital without registering and then from there, they moved his body secretly, to the morgue of police in Kahrizak. The body was kept there for 5 days. If the detention center’s cameras have filmed, it is good to release them to see that for two hours his brother was begging that Nader was dying, and agents have laughed!”
The source has denied all the claims that were made by the Police Station 127 in Narmak, regarding the presence of emergency and examining Nader Dastanpour and confirming his health during the time in custody and added: “At the first glance, the name of the perpetrators of this crime is Mr. Torabian, the head of the Branch seven of investigation in zone 4 in Jashnvareh street. He had seen Nader with that condition after being beaten and instead of sending him to the hospital, had sent him back to detention. The photos that were released had been taken by the family from Nader, during the interrogation, and it means the judge had seen his condition, but had done nothing. Major Mehdi Rabii and eight other officers were also those who arrived without authorization, breaking the house door and entering there and the main one who was beating Nader was Major Rabii.”
He also discussed the complaints raised by Dastanpour families and at the end said: “The complaints against Major Rabii and eight other officers are under investigation and have not been answered yet. Regarding the complaint against judge Torabiyan, we have not had the legal opportunity yet.”
