A Report about Mansour Arvand’s Status in Mahabad Prison

HRANA News Agency – Mansour Arvand, Mahabadi citizen, whose death sentence was rejected by the supreme court, is still waiting for retrial and final sentence.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), months after the rejection of death sentence by the supreme court, his has not been tried yet.
Sometimes ago, after the confirmation of the sentence by the appeal court of Uremia, he was transferred to solitary confinement so the concerns regarding the possibility of his execution raised. But after rejection of the sentence by the supreme court he was transferred to to Mahabad prison.
Mansour Arvand was arrested in his house in June 2011 and sentenced to death by branch number 1 of the revolutionary court of Mahabad, on charges of belligerence and cooperation with Kurdish parties.
HRANA’s sources reported his condition very bad, because of kidney infection, asthma and also stopping processing the case by the authorities.
Previously some news were published regarding the reduction of his sentence to life time prison, but one of HRANA’s legal experts believes, the supreme court cannot reduce the sentence. Its role is to process the verdict and confirm or reject the sentence. The Supreme court, can send the file to other branches for re-processing the case. However, rejection by the supreme court indicates deficiencies either in processing or evidences that automatically would end in a change in the sentence.
