A Report about Mohammad Seddigh Kaboodvand’s Critical Health Condition in Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Mohammad Seddigh Kaboodvand, founder of the Kurdistan Human Rights Organization, in the ninth year of his imprisonment in Evin, is still deprived of being sent on leave and has been denied to have appropriate medical treatment.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), despite suffering from various diseases and repeated requests, he has not been sent on medical leave or got treatment, till now.
This human rights activist just once has had the chance to get permission to go on a short time leave to see his ill child, just only after a long time being on hunger strike.
Parinaz Baghban Hassani, Mohammad Seddigh Kaboodvand’s wife, in an interview with HRANA, along with confirming this issue, added, her housband is deprived of appropriate medical treatments despite his physical problems, and painkillers are the only service that he has received from prison clinic, and only with them he can tolerate his pain and disease.
She added: “There is a double strict about Mr. Kaboudvand so that even Article 134 of the Penal Code, which is also known as “ The Aggregate Article” and makes reductions on prisoners’ imprisonment and has been applied to many other prisoners, is not applied to his case yet.”
Mohammad Seddigh Kaboodvand’s wife, pointing to the stress which is on their children and the family of Mr. Kaboodvand after years of his imprisonment, emphasized that Mr. Kaboudvand’s condition is less on public attention, despite his brilliant history and his independence from political parties. She stressed that people’s independence should not be a reason for the less attention of the media and civil society.
Mohammad Seddigh Kaboodvand was arrested and imprisoned on 1st July, and was tried in Revolutionary Court in Tehran with charges of acting against national security through founding and managing Kurdistan Human Rights Organization, and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and for propaganda against the Islamic regime through connection and communication with international Human Rights organizations and relationship and direct correspondence with Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General and communications with the media was sentenced to one year imprisonment, therefor he has been sentenced to a total of eleven years imprisonment. However, the 10 years sentence because of founding human rights organization was confirmed by branch 56 of the appeal court of Tehran.
He was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment and 5 years being banned from journalism, and management of the weekly magazine, “Payam e Mardom”, because of his press activities and on charge of inciting the public through publicizing articles in “Payam e Mardom”, by the Revolutionary Court and Public Court in Sannadaj. This sentence was reduced to 6 months imprisonment by the Supreme Court, after being confirmed by the appeal Court of Tehran.
There is another case related to publishing a booklet about women and violation of their rights in Iran, which has been opened in the Revolutionary Court in Western Azerbaijan that is still in interrogation process.
According to Kaboodvand family, he had no history of illness before his detention, but during his 7-month stay in the harsh conditions of solitary confinement, he has got lung disease, kidney and skin diseases and even he had a mild stroke.
