A Report on the Status of 9 Political Prisoners from Shush

HRANA News Agency – Families of two death row prisoners from Ahwaz in the case of “Safi Abad in Dezful incident” called on all human rights organizations to be their children’s voice in the international community. They say “our children are innocent and the accusations attributed to them are not correct.”
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Qasem Beyt Abdullah and Abdullah Abdullahi (Karmalachab) from Shush, along with seven other defendants were tried on charges of moharebeh and communicating with foreign groups as well as propaganda against the regime in August 2017. The death sentence was issued for the two defendants and also for the other defendants.
All defendants denied the allegations in the court.
After a long period of their arrest and then conviction of death, the two defendants have not had any phone calls or meetings with their families.
An informant source told HRANA’s reporter: “these two detainees have been kept at the Detention Center of the Intelligence Ministry since being arrested. Their families were informed of the death sentences of their children on August 31, 2017, but they did not know the legal process that led to the issuance of the sentence.”
The source added: “Their families have failed to meet them despite having repeatedly referred to the Ahwaz Revolutionary Court and the security agencies and they have no information about their physical condition and their fate.”
A source close to the defendants said: “We were also charged with shooting to board of mourning in Dezful, a charge that we all did not accept and even Qasim and Abdullah told the judge that the intelligence ministry knew who were Shooters at Safi Abad Dezful and we have nothing to do with this issue.”
Two years ago, unknown people in Safi Abad in Dezful, attacked Qamar Bani Hasham mourning site in this city by a Peugeot car and killed two people. 15 Arab citizens were arrested a day after the incident in the nearby villages of Shush.
It is said that both prisoners have described the allegations as unfounded and considered it a fabrication by the security apparatus for them because of their religious activities. These two defendants are Sunni Muslims.
On the other hand, relatives of Qasim Bait Abdollah say: “At Friday night, October 16, 2015, the night of the Safi Abad incident, he has been the guardian of the heavy machinery of Fatah al-Mubin on the Shawur – Shusha route and there are strong evidence of this.”
The Islamic Council of villages of the accused, elders and a large crowd of people in the region, have emphasized in a letter to the judicial and security authorities that these individuals were innocent and had no connection with the accusations.
It should be noted that these people who are mostly from Shush and its suburbs, were charged with “moharebeh through formation of the ChandolFarah group, membership in opposition groups and propaganda against the regime.” Under the issued verdict the defendants in the first and second row, named Abdullah Abdullahi (33, resident of the Shawor area) and Qasim Bait Abdullah (resident of Derakhal village) were sentenced to death.
Other sentences have also been issued to defendants as following:
Ahmad Abdullahi (30, resident of Shush) was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment, Majed Bait Abdullah (23, resident of Khalf Moslem village) was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment, Hassan Beit Abdullah, son of Abbas (31, resident of Derakhal village) was sentenced to 25 years Imprisonment.

These four defendants are now free on the bail.
It should be noted that these people were arrested by security forces at their homes on October 16, 2015. Ahmad, Majid and Hassan Abdollahi were transferred to Masjed Soleiman Prison after interrogations.
The defendants of the first and second row of the case have been kept at Shoush intelligence ministry Detention Center for the past two years and are now being held at intelligence ministry Detention Center of Ahvaz.
