A Report about Sunni Prisoners in West Azerbaijan Province

HRANA News Agency – At least eleven Sunni civilians were arrested by the Intelligence Ministry about three months ago in Bokan and Mahabad. A number of them were recently released from prison. Some of them are still held in detention of Orumiyeh Intelligence Office and some of them have been transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison.
According to the report of the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), at least eleven Sunnis were arrested by the Intelligence Ministry about three months ago in Bokan and Mahabad:
1. Ali Mavat, had been arrested in 2011 and endured 16 months in prison, he is from Bokan and has been detained since three months ago. He has had only two limited contacts with his family.
2. Farough Mavat (Ali Mavat’s brother), from Bokan, detained since three months ago.
3. Kamran Mom Hosseini, had been arrested in 2011 and endured 3 years in prison, he is from Bokan and has been detained since three months ago.
4. Abbas Ebadi, had been arrested in 2011 and endured 17 months in prison, he is from Takab and has been detained since three months ago.
5. Yousof Ahmadian, had been arrested in 2009 and 2011 and endured 3 years in prison, he is from Mahabad and has been detained since three months ago.
6. Mokhtar Ebrahimi, 21, from Mahabad, he has been detained since three months ago.
7. Arsalan Besharat, (brother of Khosro Besharat who is on death row in Rajaee Shahr prison in Karaj since 7 years ago), he is from Mahabad and has been detained since three months ago.
8. Khalid AK, from Mahabad, he has been detained since three months ago.
9. Yousef Karimi, from Mahabad, has been detained since 10 months ago.  His fate is not known.
10. Yousof Zoudi, after three months of detention has been recently released on the bail.
11. Younes Zoudi (Yousof Zoudi’s brother), after three months of detention has been recently released on the bail.
Their exact charges are not known however, the Iranian government accused detainees who are active in connection with the religious matters, of communicating with Takfiri or Salafist groups. The detainees mainly insist on the fact that they have been active solely in advocating their religious views.
