Saeid Shirzad In The 15th Month Of Detention

HRANA News Agency – Saeid Shirzad, imprisoned civil activist, is still pending in his 15th months of detention and no court hearing has been held to consider the charges against him.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Saeid Shirzad, civil activist detained in Rajai Shahr prison, in the fifteenth month of his detention has had no trial and is held in uncertain condition in Rajai Shahr prison.

This civil activist, left the last trial session earlier in May because of not receiving advanced notification and the absence of a lawyer and also because his lawyer had not had the chance to study his case, despite the repeated requests.

The activists in protest to this issue and also use of mandatory handcuffs and shackle during the transfer to the court, already had refused to participate in the trial twice.

Saeid Shirzad was arrested in his office at Tabriz Refinery in June 2014 and first was taken to Evin Prison and later was exiled to Rajai Shahr prison because of complaining about lack of basic features, and pursuing prisoners’ problems, although his trial had not been held yet and he was in detention.

This children’s rights activist, who is active regarding education for worker and street children, and educational problems of political prisoners’ children, first time, was arrested on 21st August 2012, when he had gone to Ahar, in East Azerbaijan province to aid the people after the earthquake, and was released on the bail after spending 19 days in detention.
