January 2026 Protests: Barzou Rezaei Sentenced to Death

HRANA – Barzou Rezaei, a resident of Kermanshah who was arrested in connection with the January 2026 protests and is currently held in Greater Tehran Prison, has been sentenced to death by Branch 23 of the Revolutionary Court.

According to HRANA, Barzou Rezaei has been sentenced to death.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Rezaei was sentenced to death by Branch 23 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court on the charge of “collaboration with hostile states.” The ruling was recently communicated to Barzou Rezaei’s attorney.

A hearing on the charges against him was held at this branch approximately two months ago.

Barzou Rezaei, a resident of Kermanshah, was arrested in March 2026 in connection with the nationwide protests and subsequently transferred to Greater Tehran Prison.

HRANA is reviewing further details regarding the proceedings in his case and any other potential charges brought against him.

It should be noted that protests and strikes by shopkeepers and bazaar merchants began in Tehran on Sunday, December 28, 2025, and within two days spread beyond markets and commercial centers.
