Journalist and Poet Arash Ghaleh-Golab Arrested in Abadan

Last Thursday, May 26, journalist and poet Arash Ghaleh-Golab was arrested by security forces in front of the Metropol building which was recently collapsed in Abadan City.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on Thursday, May 26, 2022, during a mourning ceremony for the victims of Abadan building collapse, security forces arrested journalist and poet Arash Ghaleh-Golab.

According to an informed source, Mr Ghaleh-Golab suffered from asthma and diabetes which make his family concerned about his health condition in detention, especially due to the violence which was used during his arrest.

The reason for the arrest, charges and his whereabouts are unknown so far.

On Monday afternoon, May 23, 2022, a 10-story building which was known as Metropol collapsed in the city of Abadan in Khuzestan Province. Over 30 individuals were killed, injured or trapped in the rubble. Following the collapse, hundreds of citizens in Abadan and several other cities demonstrated against the government and its failure to impose safety standards on the construction which led to the disaster.
