Aminollah Koushkbaghi, a Baha’i Citizen, Arrested in Gonbad-e Kavus

HRANA – Aminollah Koushkbaghi, a Baha’i citizen residing in Gonbad-e Kavus, was arrested by security forces on Wednesday, November 12, and transferred to an undisclosed location.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Koushkbaghi, 69, was arrested on Wednesday, November 12, by security forces. Five days after his arrest, efforts by his family and relatives to obtain information about his fate have so far been unsuccessful.

As of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding his whereabouts, the reasons for his arrest, or the charges brought against him.

Around the time of this arrest, another Baha’i citizen in Gonbad-e Kavus, Arvin Avezpour, was also arrested by security forces and transferred to an undisclosed location.

Gonbad-e Kavus: Baha’i Citizen Arvin Avazpour Arrested and Held Incommunicado

HRANA – On Wednesday, November 12, Arvin Avazpour, a Baha’i citizen residing in Gonbad-e Kavus, was arrested by security forces and transferred to an undisclosed location. At the same time, his home was searched by the agents.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Avazpour was arrested by security forces at his workplace. After detaining him, the agents took him to his home and searched the premises. During the search, they confiscated several books, mostly related to the Baha’i faith, as well as his mobile phone.

Five days after his arrest, efforts by his family and relatives to obtain information about his fate have remained unsuccessful.

Arvin Avazpour, 45, is a father of two and a resident of Gonbad-e Kavus.

Transgender Individual Arrested in Gonbad-e Kavus for Alleged Promotion of Indecency

The police chief of Gonbad-e Kavus, located in Golestan province, has announced the arrest of a transgender individual on charges of “promoting indecency and promiscuity,” as reported by the Borna News Agency.

According to police officials, the detainee was accused of “gathering a group of young motorcyclists to cause traffic disruptions in Gonbad-e Kavus, with the intention of promoting indecency and promiscuity.”

While specific details of the alleged actions promoting indecency were not provided, the police chief suggested that the individual’s motive was to seek adventure and demonstrate their abilities to their friends. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the individual in question, as confirmed by the police chief.

Execution of Two Inmates in Khash and Gonbad-e Kavus

In the past week, the execution of two individuals convicted of murder took place in Khash Prison, located in Sistan and Baluchestan province, and Gonbad-e Kavus Prison in Golestan province.

According to reports from Haal Vsh, Milad Galavi, a 29-year-old native of Zabol, was executed on March 3, 2024, in Khash Prison. Galavi was sentenced to death last year by the Khash Criminal Court for his alleged involvement in the killing of three members of a family.

Similarly, on March 6, Farshad Rakhshani, a 25-year-old father, was executed in Gonbad-e Kavus Prison. Rakhshani had been apprehended two years ago in connection with the death of an individual during a reported altercation.

No official sources or domestic media outlets within the country have provided coverage of these executions at the time of writing. The lack of official information raises concerns about transparency and accountability in the execution process.

In 2023, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered the execution of  746 individuals. Out of these, 6 were carried out in public. Among the executed individuals whose genders were identified, 597 were male and 20 were female. Additionally, 2 juvenile offenders, defined as individuals under the age of 18 at the time of their alleged crimes, were also executed. Taher Sarli Arrested in Gonbad-e Kavus on Political Charges

Taher Sarli was apprehended by security forces following his appearance at the Public and Revolutionary Courthouse in Gonbad-e Kavus, subsequently being confined in the city’s prison.

A reliable source close to Sarli’s family has verified his arrest and imprisonment in the Gonbad-e Kavus prison. The source disclosed, “Sarli has previously faced multiple charges, including ‘disturbing public opinion’ and ‘acting against national security.'”

Furthermore, the source added, “The case was initiated with both the public prosecutor and Sarli as a private plaintiff.”

Inmate Executed for Murder in Gonbad-e Kavus

On October 19, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison in Golestan province carried out the execution of an inmate convicted of murder, according to reports from Haal Vsh.

The individual executed was Mohammad-Ali Vahidi (Dehmardeh), a 56-year-old man who was married and a father of two.

Vahidi had been sentenced to death for murder five years ago. As of now, there have been no official statements from government sources or coverage in domestic media regarding this execution within the country.

According to data compiled by the Center of Statistics of Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRA), between October 10, 2022, and October 8, 2023, a total of 659 individuals were executed by hanging in Iran, representing a 24% increase compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. Nine Inmates Executed in Rajai Shahr, Gonbad-e Kavus, and Bandar Abbas

On September 7, 2022, Rajai Shahr Prison officials executed seven inmates who were previously convicted of murder.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on September 7, 2022, seven inmates were executed in Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.

HRANA has identified three out of the seven inmates as Khosro Noorbakhsh, Mohammad Arab, and Abolfazl Shahi.

On that day, in Gonbad-e Kavus, Golestan Province, an inmate identified as Ghafoor Nejat Pour, age 22, was executed. He was convicted of murder.

Haal Vsh also reported the execution of an Afghan National, Yarmohammad Eshagh-Zehi, age 40, in Bandar Abbas. He was arrested and sentenced to death on drug-related charges two years ago. Eshagh-Zehi’s family has not yet been informed about his execution.

These executions have not been reported by official sources and media outlets inside Iran so far.
