Six Prisoners Executed in Zahedan Prison

At dawn today, Monday, September 9, the execution of six prisoners previously sentenced to death for non-political crimes, such as drug-related offenses, was carried out in Zahedan Prison.

Haal Vsh identified of four of these prisoners as: Saeed Hassanzahi, 30 years old, father of three, from and residing in Zahedan; (first name unknown) Roudini, from Zahedan; Noor-Mohammad Noori (Noorzahi), married, from Afghanistan; and Farzad Sanchouli, 29 years old, father of three, from Zabol and residing in Zahedan.

These prisoners were transferred from the public ward to the prison’s quarantine section on Saturday night in preparation for their execution. They met with their families for the last time this morning.

According to the report, Mr. Hassanzehi was arrested in 2020 at his home on drug-related charges and was later sentenced to death by the Zahedan Revolutionary Court.

Mr. Noori was arrested in August 2022 at the Milak border terminal in Zabol on similar charges and was sentenced to death by the Zabol Revolutionary Court. He was transferred to Zahedan Prison in June 2023.

As for Mr. Sanchouli, he was arrested in Zabol around four years ago on drug-related charges and was later sentenced to death by the Zabol Revolutionary Court. He was transferred to Zahedan Prison about two years ago.

As of the time of this report, the execution of these prisoners has not yet been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

Seven Prisoners Executed in Birjand Prison for Drug Offenses

Today, Tuesday, July 23rd, the death sentences of seven prisoners, including three women, who had previously been convicted in separate cases on drug-related charges, were carried out in Birjand Prison in South Khorasan province, according to Haal Vsh.

The identities of two of these prisoners have been reported as Amir Hamzeh Barahooie (Brahui) Mojarrad, married with two children, from Zabol and a resident of Fazl Abad in Golestan Province, and Vahid Vahdani, 33 years old, from Bojnord.

According to the report, these seven prisoners had previously been arrested in separate cases on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by the judiciary.

These prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement on the night of Sunday, July 21st, in preparation for the execution.

The report, citing an informed source, stated: “Amir Hamzeh was arrested in 2019 and was later sentenced to death by the Birjand Revolutionary Court. After he appealed the verdict, it was overturned by the Supreme Court and referred to a another court branch, but he was ultimately sentenced to death again.”

Inmate Executed in Saveh Prison for Drug-Related Crimes

On April 24, 2024, an inmate convicted of drug-related crimes was executed in Saveh Prison, Markazi province, as reported by the Iran Human Rights Organization.

The inmate, identified as 37-year-old Yavar Amin-Khah and a father of one, was arrested and convicted roughly three years ago.

Execution of Three Inmates in Karaj

On April 25, 2024, three inmates, including a woman, were executed in Karaj for murder, according to Rokna.

The first inmate, a middle-aged man, allegedly killed his wife four years ago during a family dispute. The second inmate was executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison for fatally stabbing a young man during a street fight three years ago. Their identities were not disclosed in the report.

The third inmate, a woman identified only as Sahar, was convicted of killing her 70-year-old husband and stealing his gold in Tehran.

The Supreme Court confirmed the verdicts initially issued by the Tehran Criminal Court, leading to the executions.

In 2023, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran registered the execution of 767 individuals. Out of these, 7 were carried out in public. Among the executed individuals whose genders were identified, 21 were female. In a recent development, five individuals convicted of drug-related offenses faced execution in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad, on April 15, 2024, according to Haal Vsh.

The identities of the executed individuals were withheld from the report. However, it was noted that four of them hailed from Mashhad, while one was identified as an Afghan national.

On October 19, Gonbad-e Kavus Prison in Golestan province carried out the execution of an inmate convicted of murder, according to reports from Haal Vsh.

The individual executed was Mohammad-Ali Vahidi (Dehmardeh), a 56-year-old man who was married and a father of two.

Vahidi had been sentenced to death for murder five years ago. As of now, there have been no official statements from government sources or coverage in domestic media regarding this execution within the country.
