Update: Leila Tajik Spends 13 Months in Legal Suspense in Evin’s Women’s Ward

Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) – Leila Tajik has now spent more than a year in the Evin Prison Women’s Ward, waiting for Iranian courts to decide her fate.

This 45-year-old prisoner was arrested along with her ex-husband in September of last year in a joint case opened by the intelligence unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) charging the two with espionage. Following the arrest, she was interrogated for seven months in an IRGC outpost.

An informed source told HRANA that her ex-husband, who formerly served on the IRGC, is still detained at the outpost. “Their children, Sabah, 16, and Sahand, 19, are hurting over the breakup of their family, and are feeling additional pressures from IRGC agents.”

Tajik and her ex-spouse reportedly filed divorce papers prior to their arrest. Both have been barred from appointing a defense lawyer of their choosing.

Hot Water; A Constant Problem in Women’s Ward of Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – Cutting out the warm water in women’s ward of Evin prisoners has started since one month ago. This lack of access is while health facilities is in its minimum level and caused health and hygienic problems. Women in this ward also suffer from lack of access to warm and cooling system.

A Comprehensive Report about the Women’s Ward of Evin Prison

HRANA News Agency – International Human Rights Day came, while many prisoners of conscience and exclusively 33 female prisoners with political and security charges are being held in Evin prison in women’s ward. 17 of them are mothers and 13 of them are older than 50 years old. At least 14 are suffering from different chronic diseases, 2 are not Iranians and 2 are dual-citizens. Accumulated served time in solitary confinements for these prisoners is 4275 days (more than 11 years).

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the women’s ward in Evin prison is composed of two levels. The warden’s office, mosaic workshop, leader workshop and yard are places on the first level. The second level is composed of 3 rooms where the prisoners are being kept. Room number 1, has nine double deck beds, room number 2 has seven doubled deck beds and room number 3 has seven double deck beds. (more…)

All Correspondence from Women’s Ward of Evin Prison Prohibited

HRANA News Agency – According to a new order, all correspondence between prisoners in the women’s ward of Evin Prison and their families are prohibited. All prisoners’ furloughs have been canceled until further notice, too.
