HRANA News Agency – Protesting teachers in different cities in Iran attended gatherings in protest against low wages and discrimination in education. At least one of the demonstrators was arrested and has not been released yet.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), on Sunday morning 1st March, in the various cities in Iran, teachers held a protest in silence.
The teachers who had objection against their low wages and discrimination in education, held gatherings in some provinces such as; Tehran, Khorasan, Lorestan, Qazvin, Khozestan, and Fars.
One of the teachers in this gathering told HRANA’s reporter, “Gatherings in other cities were held from 9 to 11am in front of the Offices of Education and in Tehran, from 2pm in front of the Parliament, which was in silence and it was held by Teachers Union invitation. About 5000 people attended the gathering in Tehran and at the end a statement was read by Mr Behesti, Union’s spokesman and gathering finished in peace without any slogan.”
The gathering was held under tight security and at least one of the demonstrators named Milad Darvish has been arrested.
