HRANA News Agency – Sanandaj Prison’s gym was closed down some time ago, and its absence has deprived the prisoners of the opportunity to exercise, which caused the protest of several prisoners of the prison. According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), prisoner Ashkan Ahmadi was beaten up for protesting at the prison chief regarding the closure of the prison gym on October 28, 2017.

It was reported that at 4 pm on October 28, 2017, Aziz Heydari, prison chief, Seyyed Naderi, Interior director, Ghavami and Mehrdad Avaqi, prison guards, and Roushani, prison guard officer with four or five soldiers beat Ashkan Ahmadi.

Beating this prisoner was serious enough to break his head. The prisoner’s head is stitch 25 stitches and his hand is likely to be broken.

Ashkan Ahmadi was allegedly representing a large number of prisoners detained in the youth ward who had protested at the head of the prison.

According to reports, he was transferred to solitary confinement on the orders of prison authorities after being beaten. On October 29, 2017, when the family of the prisoner came to visit the prison, they were told that the detainee was in solitary confinement due to conflict with other detainees and is currently forbidden to have visits. The wrong narration that was rejected by other prisoners.

It seems that prison authorities have kept him in solitary confinement and denied contact with the outside world, in order to eliminate the indications of beating of this prisoner and preventing the legal possibility of suing the captor.

Ashkan Ahmadi who is said to be known as an athlete outside the prison is held for 11 months in jail in Sanandaj prison on charge of murder and his case is pending.

The closure of the only gym for the prison of Sanandaj has increased the pressure on prisoners who were hoping to use their limited facilities to maintain their health and morale.
