Three imprisoned priests will be tried again

HRANA News Agency – Three imprisoned priests named Behnam Irani, Raza Rabbani and Seyed Abdalreza (Matthias) Ali Hghnezhad will be tried again soon.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), recently, three prisoners, Rev. Mr. Behnam Irani, Raza Rabbani and Seyed Abdalreza (Matthias) Ali Haghnezhad, were informed that on Monday 24th November they will have a trial again at the Karaj Revolutionary Court, Branch 6.

Mr. Raza Rabbani, Seyed Abdalreza (Matthias) Ali Haghnezhad, and Behnam Irani, who have been in prison for several months, by the Revolutionary Court in Alborz Province, presided by Judge Asif Alhosseini and were charged with multiple charges.

According to this verdict, Pastor Behnam Irani has been sentenced to six years of imprisonment and exile to Zabol prison. He previously was sentenced to six years in prison. Therefore, Mr. Irani has been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment in total.

In other rulings, the priests, Raza Rabbani and Seyed Abdalreza Ali Haghnezhad, each has been sentenced to six years in prison and exile to Minab prison.

Ali Haghnezhad was arrested on 18th August 2011 and Raza Rabbani was arrested in December 2013.

They are currently, held in Karaj Central Prison.

Based on these three priests’ charges of “acting against national security” and “forming a group to overthrow the regime,” and according to Article 498 of the Penal Code, their sentences were issued.

It should be noted that the charge of corruption on earth, that all three were sentenced earlier, have been taken during the investigation.
