6 Political Prisoners Started Hunger Strike at Evin Prison in Tehran

HRANA News Agency – Following a complain regarding compulsory use of prison’s yard “to get some fresh air” in winter weather and lack of warm clothing for prisoners in ward 8 of Evin prison, Amir Amirgholi, Aso Rostami and Amir Hushang Navaei were taken to solitary confinements, and they went on hunger strike. Also, 3 other prisoners went on hunger strike until those inmates would be returned to the ward from solitary confinements.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), on Monday 16th February, despite the winter cold weather and lack of warm clothing, prisoners of ward 8 in Evin prison were forced by prison officials to stay in the prison yard.
This caused prisoners’ protests, particularly political prisoners, so that Aso Rostami, Amir Amirgholi and Amir Hushang Navaei were taken to solitary confinements.
These three prisoners told they will go on hunger strike, when they were taken to solitary confinements.
Also, Omid Alishenas, Saeid Shirzad and Masood Arab Choobdar, other three prisoners in the same ward, stated that they are going on hunger strike until other inmates would be back to their ward and their demands would be considered by prison authorities.
An informed source in this regard, told HRANA’s reporter, “These three prisoners were transferred to solitary confinements on an order by Mehdi Khodabakhshi, prison persecutor and deputy persecutor of Tehran.”
It is to say that, keeping prisoners outdoor in cold and rainy weather, is one of the collective punishment methods in Iran prisons, and this happened while prisoners are not allowed to get warm and isolated clothing from their families.Bottom of Form
