Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekounam Returned to the Prison Without Proper Treatment

HRANA News Agency – Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekounam, Shiite Marja and dissident cleric, was returned to Saheli prison in Qom without proper treatment. Currently, due to increased blood sugar he suffers from pain and one of his eyes suffers an infection following the “scratches” and lack of treatment, on the other hand the medical facilities of the prison are very limited and he is prevented being sent to the hospital.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), on December 4, 2016, Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekounam, Shiite Marja and dissident cleric, was returned to Saheli prison in Qom without treatment.

A close source to the family of Mr. Nekounam told HRANA’s reporter: “In the wake of complications from stroke of Ayatollah Nekounam in solitary confinement of the Special Court for clergy and his poor treatment, and also, frequent transfers from prison to clinic and from clinic to hospital or from the clinic to home and vice versa, and in addition to previous health problems, recently he has been suffering from pain and irritation of both eyes.”

He added: “The clinic of Saheli prison in Qom lacks the pphthalmology and he must be sent to out of the prison for treatment, and like always, special clergy court opposes this.”

This source stressed: “The parole of Ayatollah has been agreed about five months ago, but the judiciary does not apply it.”

Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekonam, one of teachers of Madrasah in Qom, was arrested in the wake of a critical speech and was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Special Court for the Clergy and is held in Saheli prison in Qom.

Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekonam, was arrested on December 22, 2014.

Need to be mentioned that after ayatollah Makarem Shirazi banned high speed internet due to “possibility of video call and corruption”, Ayatollah Nekounam in an interview with one of Iranian press said, “We cannot close the eye of people and society”.

He stressed what impede or obstruct anything had backfires and annonced: “The community is greedy about it, no different if it is Facebook, satellite, Internet or Rightel.”

He said to his student: ” sell your carpet if and buy laptop or tablet, or computer and Create a blog site and have dialogue with society and the people.”

Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekonam, Shiite Marja and dissident cleric, was held in Qom prison with a sentence of 5 years imprisonment. After about 18 months imprisonment on June 23, he was transferred from prison to his home, but after a short time he was arrested at his home, on July 7, and again was transferred to Saheli prison in Qom.

The physical condition of Ayatollah Nekounam in Saheli prison in Qom is unsuitable. Ayatollah Nekounam suffers from blood pressure and blood sugar with loss of vision while he is prohibited of accessing essential medicines in prison by the officials.
