Yarsan Follower Kaveh Salimi Arrested

On March 5, 2023, security forces arrested Kaveh Salimi at his home in Kermanshah and took her to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on March 5, 2023, Kaveh Salimi, a follower of the Yari religion, was arrested by security forces in Kermanshah.

The agents reportedly searched his house and confiscated some of his belongings.
In recent weeks, Salimi was summoned via phone to IRGC’s intelligence office and interrogated.
The reason for his arrest and whereabouts are still unknown.

Yarsanism, Ahl-e Haqq is a syncretic religion founded by Sultan Sahak in the late 14th century in western Iran. As a religious minority, Yarsan followers are subjected to intimidation and prosecution by regime security and judicial systems.

 

Poisoned Student’s Mother Beaten; Four Men Responsible for Attack Arrested

A video circulated on social media shows the mother of one of the poisoned school students was beaten during parents’ protest against the poisoning attacks in Tehran. According to Tasnim news, in this regard, four people were arrested.

Following the serial poisoning with an unknown toxic gas in several schools across Iran, the students of the School “13 Aban” was attacked by poisoning. Worried parents gathered before the school. During the protest, a man, apparently, a plainclothes intelligence agent, violently beat a woman.

This video has stirred up many people’s anger on social media.

In response, Iran’s Law Enforcement Command spokesperson claimed that the attacker was not a police agent.

“Immediately after being informed about this incident, a team of police officers was sent to the spot. Their investigation shows that the police was not involved directly or indirectly,” he stated.

Omid Moshir Panahi Arrested in Sanandaj

On February 23, 2023, the Sanandaj Ministry of Intelligence summoned and arrested Omid Moshir Panahi.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on February 23, 2023, Omid Moshir Panahi, a resident of Sanandaj, was arrested.

Moshir Panahi is a member of the cultural association Nojin which is engaged in environmental activities, forest protection and Kurdish language teaching.

The reason for his arrest, whereabouts and allegations are still unknown.

 

 

Detained Protestor Died in Police Station

On February 22, Ebrahim Rigi died in the custody of the police a few hours after his arrest in Zahedan. He had been arrested for the second time over protests.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, detained protestor Ebrahim Rigi died in custody in Zahedan.

On February 22, two police agents arrested Rigi in Zahedan and took him to a police station, where he was reportedly beaten in the police station. “The Judge of the homicide branch, a Judge on duty and Zahedan Forensic medicine have confirmed beating as the cause of his death,” Haal Vsh reported.

Nonetheless, police claimed that Rigi has been beaten outside the police station. Rigi’s family reportedly are under pressure not to follow up on this case.

Also earlier, on October 13, 2022, Rigi, age 24, was arrested over protests by security forces near his house in Zahedan. He was released on bail on January 1, 2023.

Austrian National Sentenced to Seven Years and Six Months

In a statement, the Austrian foreign ministry revealed that Iran’s judicial officials sentenced an Austrian national to seven-and-a-half years in prison “, with two years of probation being waived in the case of good behavior.” This individual was arrested last October.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, an Austrian man was sentenced to seven years and six months for alleged spying.

In reaction, Vienna summoned the Iranian ambassador to express its strenuous objection to this conviction.

This statement mentioned “espionage” as the charge against this Austrian convict. “Two years of this sentence” may be “waived in the case of good behavior,” the ministry added.

Earlier, in October 2022, the Austrian foreign ministry disclosed the arrest of an Austrian man in Iran and asked Iranian authorities for an explanation. At the time, Iranian authorities asserted that this arrest was not related to the concurrent nationwide protests.

Four Individuals Arrested in Dehloran, One in Sanandaj

On February 14, security forces arrested four individuals in Dehloran and took them to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on February 14, 2023, four citizens were arrested by security forces in Dehloran, Ilam Province.

These individuals have been identified as Farshad Aeini, age 29, his brother, Sa’adollah Aeini, age 24, Azim Yadegari, age 43, and his wife, Safoora Maleki.  

The agents did not show any arrest warrant during the arrest of Azimi and his wife.
Kolbar News also reported that security forces arrested photographer Mehdi Tavakoli in Sanandaj on February 14.

Their whereabouts and the allegations are still unknown at the time of writing.

Hadi Atashbar Arrested in Mashhad

On February 14, 2023, security forces arrested Hadi Atashbar, a former political prisoner, at his home in Mashhad and took him to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on February 14, 2023, Hadi Atashbar was arrested in Mashhad.

An informed source told HRANA that the plainclothes agents did not show any arrest warrant. The reason for his arrest is still unknown.
Atashbar, age 45, faced other arrests and convictions on a prior occasion.

 

Five Cross-Border Fuel Carrier (Sookhtbar) Killed by IRGC Forces

On February 7, IRGC forces killed at least five cross-border fuel carriers (Sookhtbar) by shooting in Iranshahr, Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting the Baloch Activist Campaign, at least five individuals carrying fuel across the border were killed by IRGC forces in Iranshahr.

The IRGC forces reportedly began shooting at their vehicle without any warning, setting the car ablaze, and five people died.
The victims’ identities are unknown at the time of writing.

According to HRANA’s annual report, in 2022, a total of 845 people were shot by military forces. At least 571 of the victims lost their life.

This includes 22 kolbars, 9 fuel carriers, and 540 civilians. 274 people were injured by military forces open fire, including 134 kolbars, 128 civilians, and 12 fuel carriers.

Iran Protests: Six People Arrested in Piranshahr

On January 18, 2023, security forces arrested Taha Rasoulian, Ahmad Abdollahpour, Shahoo Abdollahpour, Sina Deshmir, Ghader Mohammadpour and Mohsen Ghaderi in Piranshahr and took them to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, on January 18, 2023, six residents of a village in Piranshahr County, West Azerbaijan Province, were arrested.

The agents reportedly did not show any arrest warrant. The reason for their arrests, whereabouts and allegations are still unknown.

 

German National Arrested in Khuzestan

IRGC-affiliated news agency Tasnim reported the arrest of an unidentified German national due to photographing the oil facilities in Omidiyeh.

The report did not reveal the detainee’s identity and the allegations against him.

According to Article 503 of the Islamic Penal Code, taking photos of forbidden places can be punishable by a prison term from six months to three years.
