Contradictory Statements by the Authorities about Ali Poladi’s Death

HRANA News Agency – Ali Poladi died after being arrested at the detention center of police office in Chaloos. His family confirmed the news and told HRANA’s reporter: “On the first day of the incident the prisoner was healthy when was detained, however, in the following days, different authorities had made the contradictory statements including the prisoner’s background of the accident in the past, epilepsy and heart failure as the reason of his death.” Informed sources reported that Mr. Poladi’s family is under pressure to not to have contact with the media and human rights organizations and Ali Poladi’s brother was summoned to intelligence ministry.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Chaloos police officers arrested Ali Poladi, 26-year-old resident of Goiter Village located in Marzan Abad in Chaloos, on January 12, 2018. Only one day later, his family was informed that he had died at the detention center and that it was necessary for the family to begin legal proceedings for delivery of the body.
Ali Pouladi’s brother confirming the news and told HRANA’s reporter: “Ali had no illnesses and was healthy when he was arrested.”
His family told HRANA’s reporter that he had been arrested on suspicion of “shooting” in a dispute case. However, the coincidence of his death in the detention center with recent protests in the country and the death of a number of detainees in detention centers caused particular attention to his case.
The attention to the death of Ali Poladi in police office increased to such an extent that provincial officials had commented without giving them enough time to make an autopsy.
“The person introduced himself to the judiciary on Thursday, January 11, 2018, then was delivered to the police detention center after issuing the temporary arrest warrant and the bail,” Colonel Abdullah Montazeri, Chaloos Chief of Police said regarding the death of the person who had been arrested on charge of shooting in Marzan Abad based on a judicial order, on January 14, 2018, just one day after the incident.
“He died in the detention center on January 13, 2018, and according to forensic, the cause of his death was heart failure.” Colonel Abdullah Montazeri added.
Commenting on the cause of death just one day after the incident, is despite the fact that on the same day, Forensic Director General of Mazandaran confirmed the death of a person at Chaloos detention center and said, the cause of his death would be announced after examining various tests.
Ali Abbasi told the reporter of Fars News Agency in Sari regarding the death of a person at Chalous detention center, the body of this person has been transmitted to the forensic clinic of Noshahr to find out the exact cause of death.
He pointed out that he had the background of seizure and added, there were no traces of the beatings on the body of this person.
The Forensic Director General of Mazandaran finally said that the autopsy was performed for detection of the exact cause of death and announced that the cause of the death would be announced after examining various tests.
Ali Abbasi who was talking to Fars News Agency on January 14, 2018, had told on the same day in another interview with IRNA, denying the young man’s death due to torture in the detention center: “after the death, the young man was transmitted to the Forensic Medicine of Chaloos to determine the cause of his death, and after diagnostic and autopsy procedures, it became clear that he was severely affected by the head injury resulting from an accident from one month ago.”
“On the other hand, it has been reported that the young man had the background of epilepsy.” He added.
The above-mentioned contradictory and hasty statements were made while IRNA reported on the same day that the chief of Police had announced that no such incident had been reported.
As mentioned above, Mr. Poladi’s family had earlier confirmed his death in the detention center in a conversation with HRANA.
