HRANA News Agency – Five men who were active in preaching Sunni Islam were arrested on 18 February 2014 in their homes in Mahabad, West Azerbaijan province. The news follows the arrest of five other Sunni preachers last week in Bukan, West Azerbaijan province.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Soran Fatahi and Abdol Rahim Chana, as well as three brothers; Abdol Hadi Azrem, Mehdi Azrem and Abdol Salam Azrem, were arrested in Mahabad last week.

Speaking about the arrest of one of the men, a source told the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), ”Abdol Rahim’s son, who suffers from asthma, was nearly unconscious, yet the officers paid no attention to him.”

“When Abdol Rahim saw the condition of his son, he [confronted] them, but they proceeded to mock him, and all of them were put into the car of the Intelligence [agents],” he said.

He continued, “at the Intelligence Office, his son fainted due to the psychological stress and the shortness of breath.”

“After this young child became unconscious, Intelligence officers called Abdol Rahims family and [told] them to take their son home from the Intelligence office,” he said.
