Hassan Rastegari Majd Still Being Kept in Solitary Confienment

HRANA News Agency – Hassan Rastegari Majd, an Iranian-born Turkish citizen and political prisoner is on hunger strike and is still being kept in solitary confinemen of Orumiyeh Central Prison. While on December 15, due to “his critical condition” the prison doctor was called his cell.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Hassan Rastegari Majd has gone on hunger strike to protest against his condition since December 3, and at the same time, has sent letter to the Consulate General of Turkey in Urmia and prison authorities.
On December 5, the prisoner was transferred to solitary confinement by authorities.
On December 15, due to “his critical condition” the prison doctor was called to his cell.
Earlier, a close source to the political prisoner had told HRANA, “The authorities including Mr. Abdullahi, responsible for implementing the provisions of Orumiyeh Prison, had visited him and promised to follow up his demands but Mr. Rastegari announced that he would continue until reaching his demands. They had told that they could follow three cases which were made for him in prison, but for the original conviction they could not do anything. ”
The source explains about the reasons for the protest, “He protests against his original sentence. He had been sentenced to 15 years in prison on charge of membership in PKK, and in another case, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison on charge of forging birth certificates and was sentenced to 3 years in prison on charge of illegal border crossing and also was sentenced to 3 years in prison on charge of illegal staying in the country.”
It is worth noting Hasan Rastegari, 43, son of Sultan, was arrested in Orumiyeh on October 27, 2014.
Mr. Rastegari had been sentenced to 15 years in prison on charge of “disturbing public order, acting against national security and collaborating with Kurdish opposition groups” by the Revolutionary Court in the city of Orumiyeh. The sentence was upheld on appeal. Mr. Rastegari was sentenced to one-year imprisonment on charge of “propaganda against the system”.
