HRANA News Agency – Fatemeh Salbehi, a young girl who was arrested at the age of 17 on charge of murder of his husband, was hanged in Adel Abad prison of Shiraz.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the execution sentence of Fatemeh Salbehi was implemented on Tuesday October 13 in Adel Abad prison of Shiraz, while it was expected that the judicial authorities would halt it considering the arrest of the defendant before the age of 18 and also new Islamic Penal Code that is being applied since 2013.
Fatemeh Salbehi, born in 1991, had married at the age of 16 a man around 30 years old, and according to her, they had never met before marriage. After the body of his husband was found in 2009 at their house, Fatemeh Salbehi was arrested and interrogated. She was sentenced to death despite ambiguities of the case sometime later.
According to one of the former lawyers of Ms. Salbehi, although she confessed during the primary interrogations and under pressure, but she had not confessed in the court.
The New Islamic Penal Code, for the execution of minors is referred to intellectual and mental growth test. According to the close sources, this test was conducted unscientifically and unrelated questions were asked during the test.
The Penal Code of Iran recognize the age of maturity for male 15 and for female 9. This is while the international conventions, including children rights convention prohibited the executions of youth under the age of 18. Execution of children for crimes like struggle and homicide, drug trafficking, etc. were always one of the subjects of human rights violations in Iran.
This action of Iran is in contradiction with the international covention on civil and political rights and the convention on the rights of children. Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Sudan are the only countries that are continuing to execute juveniles.
