HRANA News Agency – Following the clashes between police forces and Dervishes in Tehran, Iran’s law enforcement spokesman announced the arrest of at least 300 Dervishes. Five others were killed in the clashes. NAJA has confirmed that three law enforcement officers and two Basijis were killed. The reports indicate that about 70 women have been arrested and were transferred to the Qarchak prison in Varamin. Many detained men have also been transferred to Evin Prison, although there is no information available on the fate of a large number of detainees.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), after arresting one of the Gonabadi dervishes, Nematullah Riahi, a group of Gonabadi dervishes gathered to protest. The protesting dervishes demanded Mr. Riahi’s unconditional release.
The gathering was attacked with violence by anti-riot and plain-clothes forces, and this conflict continued for two days.
Police spokesman, Saeed Montazeral-Mahdi, in a conversation with Mehr News Agency, has announced the arrest of 300 protesters and said that three law enforcement officers and two Basij forces were killed.
On the other hand, the Fars News Agency quoted NAJA’s spokesman as saying: “Unfortunately, we saw the destruction of public property, automobiles and glass of the houses of the people by the disrupters of order and security, at that place.”
Meanwhile, Farhad Noori, dervishs’ rights activist, in a radio broadcast with Radio Farda, denied that news and added: “Special Forces besides beating the protesters, attacked the residential houses that are neighbors of doctor Tabandeh and broke the glasses of their cars and ruined them.”
Dervishes’ rights activists, some of whom are present amongst the protesters, emphasized on social media sites that: “Dervishes’ gatherings are peaceful and they never initiate these clashes.”
ILNA news agency has also announced the identity of three of the law enforcement officers who were killed, as; “Sergeant Emami, Sergeant Bayrami, and soldier Reza Moradi Alamdar.” The identities of the two killed Basijis have not yet been disclosed by official sources.
