At Least 5 Prisoners at the Risk of Retaliation Sentences of Eyes and Ears

HRANA News Agency – The retaliation sentences of the eyes and ears of at least 5 prisoners including Mojtaba Yasavali in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj are ready for implementation. However, despite pressure from the judiciary, the medical community has resisted so far to execute these sentences.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), the retaliation sentences of the eyes and ears of at least 5 prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj are ready for implementation. However, the medical community has not cooperated with the judicial authorities yet.

Mojtaba Yasavali (Saheli) is one of the prisoners one of whose eyes was gouged on March 3, 2015 after 5 years by the approval of Tehran prosecutor’s decision and the presence of Judge Mohammad Shahriyari and the head of Criminal Court, prison officials and medical experts and a group of specialists.

A source close to the prisoner said about the details in an interview with HRANA: “First, none of the doctors in the city of Qom was willing to cooperate to gouge the first eye of Mojtaba. He was eventually transferred to Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj where the sentence was executed. This was the first time in the history of Iran that an eye was blinded by acid.”

The source said, “Mojtaba was told by the executive office ‘your second eye’s retaliation sentence is ready for implementation but so far all doctors have refused to cooperate.’ The doctors say that they have sworn to practice medicine and not acid attacks.”

The source close to Mr. Yasavali at the end said: “The judicial system has been trying to push the medical community to execute the sentence and it might happen at any time that a doctor would be found who would cooperate.”

HRANA has learned about five prisoners who have been sentenced to retaliation of eyes and ears.

One of Mojtaba Yasavali’s eyes has been gouged already and the second eye will be blinded by acid soon.
