At Least 7 Prisoners Executed in Rajai Shahr Prison of Karaj

HRANA News Agency – Seven of eleven prisoners who had been transferred to solitary confinement in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj were executed and four returned to their wards with consent from the parents of victims. Among the executed, there was a prisoner whose sentence was the result of a tribal conflict, and his death sentence was issued on the basis of the “knowledge of the judge”, and not on the documents and evidences. His execution resulted in a conflict in front of the prison and police used warning shots.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), seven prisoners were executed in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj on July 5. The identity of these seven prisoners have been announced by HRANA as: Nasser Abangah, Abbas Yousefi, Hossein Rahzani, Mehdi Ebrahimi, Omid Sohrabi, Omid Rostami and Ghahraman Ali Abbaspour.

Also, along with seven executed prisoners, there were 4 prisoners who returned to their wards with the consent of the parents of the victims. ROKNA news agency has had a report titled: “These four killers are not executed”, about these four people.

Although ROKNA did not mention the identities of these four, but HRANA had previously been able to authenticate the names of two of them as: Reza Niati and Seyyed Mohammad Seyyed Abdullah.

According to this report, all four prisoners were sentenced to retaliation, and one of them is a citizen of Afghanistan.

In addition to the large number of executed people, what distinguishes this execution is the presence of “Ghahraman Ali Abbaspour” among the executed. He was arrested during a tribal clash, without sufficient evidences.

An informed source regarding Mr. Abbaspour’s trial told HRANA’s reporter: “The case was 8 years old and the conflict between the two large Azeri families in the Abdel Abad area of Tehran’s Ghezelgachi neighbourhood. Ghahraman Ali Abbaspour was sentenced to death in Tehran’s 71th penal court, based on the first confession of the accused during the interrogation, with the judge’s knowledge that the accused was unlikely to have confessed under the torture, as he has a large body. This is while the case investigator has rejected his first confession. His death sentence was upheld in the Supreme Court.”

The execution time of this prisoner was the scene of tribal clash in front of the Rajai shahr prison, and police forces arrested a number of people.

After executing the sentence, due to the nature of the case, which was basically derived from a tribal conflict, Abbaspour’s family house was sieged to prevent the presence of a large number of relatives and turning it into a scene of conflict, and was controlled by the police forces for several days.

HRANA’s video reports show a number of scenes of the presence of these forces in the area where people live and mourn.
