Man Executed in Isfahan/14 People Executed Today

HRANA – A man was executed in Isfahan Central Prison for smuggling narcotics in the early morning hours of today. 

Based on information received by HRANA, a male prisoner was executed in Isfahan Central Prison today for carrying and keeping narcotics for personal use. The man had previously been sentenced to execution by Branch 4 of the General Court of Isfahan and his sentence had been affirmed by the Supreme Court on June 21, 2009.

The man had twice submitted a petition for pardon to the Judiciary’s Commission for Amnesty and Impunity but both requests had been denied by the Commission.

13 other prisoners were also hanged this morning in Ghezel Hesar Prison in the city of Karaj, bringing the total of executions for today alone to 14. According to the Statistics, Publications and Evidence Unit of Human Rights Activists in Iran, 32 prisoners have been executed in Iran in the first 17 days of the Iranian month of Khordad (May 22-June 21).
