Payam Shakiba, Student Activist Arrested in Tehran

HRANA News Agency – Payam Shakiba, former member of the Islamic Society of Zanjan University and student at Allameh Tabatabai University, was arrested by the security forces, after leaving his house in Tehran, and was taken to an unknown location. Mr. Shakiba, earlier in the process of objections to the moral corruption of deputy head of Students Department of Zanjan University, had endured six months imprisonment.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Payam Shakiba, former member of the Islamic Society of Zanjan University and student at Allameh Tabatabai University, was arrested by the security forces, after leaving his house in Tehran on Wednesday February 22, 2017, and was taken to an unknown location.

A source, close to Mr. Shakiba, told HRANA’s reporter: “He is a researcher in contemporary history of Iran and was recently threatened by the institutions within the university.”

It should be noted; Payam Shakiba in the process of objections to the moral corruption of deputy head of Students Department of Zanjan University, was arrested along with 5 other classmates by the Intelligence agents in Zanjan on July 8, 2008, and after 2 months was released on the bail. Eventually he had been sentenced to 1 year imprisonment, but this sentence was reduced to 6 months imprisonment and six month parole by the Court of Appeal.

He went to prison in 2010, and was released after enduring his imprisonment sentence.
