HRANA News Agency – On August 27, 12 prisoners with drug-related charges were hanged in a prison in Karaj, despite requests of UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights in Iran, Mr. Ahmad Shaheed for halting the executions. According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), on August 27, 12 prisoners with drug-related accusations were hanged in a prison in Karaj.
The identity of nine of the prisoners that HRANA succeeded to obtain are as follows: Alireza Madadpur, Bahman Rezaei, Arman Bahrami, Ali Reza Asadi, Mohsen Islami, Hussein Bayrami (transferred from Ghezelhesar prison), Mehdi Rostami, Amir Sarkhah and Alireza Sarkhah.
The prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement for the execution on Wednesday, August 24. They were able to meet their families for the last time on Thursday.
Remarkably, on August 26, Ahmad Shaheed, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, had asked the Iranian government to stop the execution of these 12 prisoners in Karaj, including Alireza Madadpur.
