A Report about Asghar Ghattan’s Critical Health Condition in Custody

HRANA News Agency – Asghar Ghattan has frequently been arrested and imprisoned since 1960s, when he was just 14 years old, because of his political activities. This political prisoner is currently being held in Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj, despite suffering from various diseases. Mr. Ghattan has had “19 diseases and surgeries and takes 38 prescribed pills every day.”
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), Asghar Ghattan, born in 1954, was arrested last time by the Ministry of Intelligence agents in 2010, and after 45 days interrogation in ward 209, due to his illness and on doctors’ advice he was released on the bail.
He was finally sentenced to 5 years imprisonment on charge of gathering and collusion through supporting People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.
This 62-year-old prisoner was summoned to serve the sentence, on May 23, 2012, and was transferred to ward 350, and then he was exiled to Rajai Shahr prison on June 1, 2014.
Mr. Ghattan has a history of several detentions and imprisonment, this political prisoner during harsh conditions of numerous imprisonments has got different diseases and his physical condition
is very inadequate.
Diseases and surgeries performed on this elderly prisoner are as follows:

  1. Severe anemia 2. Blood pressure 3. Diabetes 4. Migraine 5. Prostate disease that requires surgery 6. Severe stomach pain that had surgeries, twice 7. Kidney stone, had twice surgery 8. Herat disease, four times angiography 9. Cholesterol 10. Fatty liver 11. Enlarged spleen, requires surgery 12. Right side hernia had surgery 13. Left side hernia had surgery 14. Shortness of breath 15. Gallbladder surgery and its removal 16. Two surgeries on both eyes 17. Kidney stone crusher, twice 18. Shoulder surgery 19. Hemorrhoid or fissure.

Mr Ghattan takes the following pills daily:
Delna tablets 2 a day
Despiradon tablet 2 a day
Metoran tablet 2 a day
Metformin tablet 3 a day (for diabetes)
Plavix tablet 1 a day (Because OF stand in the arteries of the heart)
Atorvastatin tablet 1 a day (For cholesterol)
Losar 25mg tablet 3 a day (For heart disease)
Allopurinol tablet 1 a day (For heart disease)
Nitperazole tablet 2 a day (For stomach problem)
Aspirin 80 tablet 1 a day (To thin the blood)
Clidinium C tablet 3 a day (For stomach)
Celazex tablet 3 a day (For diabetes)
Livergol 140 tablets 2 a day (For liver disease)
Tamosin tablet 2 a day (For prostate)
Daimitigon tablet 3 a day (For stomach)
Digestive tablet 3 a day (For stomach)
Sorbitol 2 a day (For digestive problems)
Atenolol 50 tablet 2 a day (For heart problem)
Sana-lax 1 a day (For digestive problem)
38 tablets a day in total.
Asghar Ghattan for the last time was sent on medical leave, on May 30, last year, he was told that the decision regarding the punishment intolerance would be executed after this period of leave.
However, he was summoned and returned to Rajai Shahr prison regardless to the punishment intolerance decision, on June 8, 2016.
It should be noted that Asghar Ghattan was arrested for the first time in 1968 when he was 14 years old. He was also arrested and imprisoned in 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
