Saeid Shirzad in the 3rd Year of Imprisonment

HRANA News Agency – Saeid Shirzad, political prisoner of Rajaei Shahr prison, who is beginning the third year of his imprisonment, is waiting for the decision of the appeal court since 8 months ago.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Saeid Shirzad, 27, political prisoner and children’s rights activist, is under arrest since June 8, 2014. He spent more than two months in solitary confinements of ward 209 in Evin prison, without having any contact with his family and lawyer.

Mr. Shirzad was put under pressure for performing taped confession in ward 209, prior to his transfer to Rajaei Shahr prison.

This political activist was tried in branch number 15 of the revolutionary court, 15 months after his arrest, with the presence of his lawyer (Mr. Amirsalar) and was sentenced to 5 years in prison by judge Salavati, on charge of propaganda against the regime. This sentence was summited to his lawyer on Wednesday September 15, 2015.

The evidences which were used against him and were the base for the sentence that he received are his civil activities, including visiting the families of political prisoner and reports about the human rights issues.

Despite being under detention for more than 2 years and receiving the primary sentence 8 months ago, this political activist is still waiting for the verdict of the appeal court and has been kept in limbo in ward number 4 of hall number 12 of Rajaei Shahr prison.

Need to be mentioned, during past two years many political and human rights organizations and activists have demanded his freedom. Few to mention, Canada Post Union, Barbara Lochbihler vice-president of the human rights commission of EU Parliament and Walter-Payton university students in Chicago USA. Besides, Ban Ki Mon presented Mr. Shirzad’s case as an example of human rights violation in his last report.

Amnesty international in two different statements in October 2014 and April 2016 has called for his freedom.

Mr. Shirzad has continued his activities inside the prison by publishing his articles, including the article that he wrote in number 45 of Khat-e-Solh (Peace Line) monthly about the children marriage.
