Sunni preacher arrested in Sanandaj, Iran

HRANA News Agency – A Sunni preacher, Arash Mehdi Khani, was arrested by agents from the Ministry of Intelligence on 18 May 2014 in Sanandaj, Kurdistan province of Iran.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), he has been arrested three times previously in relation to his religious activities, and each time has been detained in solitary confinement in the Ministry of Intelligence.

One of his family members has reported that Arash Mehdi Khani is currently being held in the Ministry of Intelligence detention center in Sanandaj.

His brother, Shoresh Mehdi Khani, was executed in Sanandaj Central Prison on 6 July 2009, after being convicted of ‘Moharebeh (enmity against God) through connections with a religious movement’.
