Yashar Tabrizi Sentenced to Over 5 Years in Prison

Civil rights activist Yashar Tabrizi has been sentenced to five years and eight months in prison by Branch 2 of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court.

Branch 2 of the Tabriz Revolutionary Court sentenced Mr. Tabrizi to three years and seven months in prison for disrupting national security through supporting the Zionist regime. He was also sentenced to one year and five months for insulting the Supreme Leader, and eight months for propaganda against the regime.

Another part of Mr. Tabrizi’s case, concerning the charge of insulting religious sanctities, has been referred to Branch 2 of the Tabriz Criminal Court for further proceedings.

Mr. Tabrizi was released from Tabriz Prison on bail in February 2025. He had been arrested on November 19, 2024, after appearing at the Intelligence Department of the IRGC in Tabriz.

In September 2024, Yashar Tabrizi was also sentenced by the Shahriar Revolutionary Court to one year in prison for propaganda against the regime in connection with another case.

Akbar Gholizadeh (known as Yashar Tabrizi), the civil activist, has previously faced arrest and judicial actions due to his activities.

Yashar Tabrizi Arrested by IRGC Intelligence in Tabriz

On Tuesday, November 19, 2024, Yashar Tabrizi, a civil activist, was arrested today after appearing at the News Office of the IRGC Intelligence in Tabriz.

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Tabrizi appeared at the News Office of the IRGC Intelligence in Tabriz at 8:00 AM. His family later learned of his arrest, and his wife’s mobile phone was also confiscated. So far, the reasons behind his arrest remain unclear.

On November 12, 2024, IRGC Intelligence forces searched the home of this civil activist in Tabriz. During the search, authorities instructed him to report to the News Office to answer a few questions posed by the prosecutor.

On September 13, 2023, Tabrizi was previously arrested by security forces in Tabriz. Shortly after, he was transferred from The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility, also known as Ward 240 of Evin Prison, to Ward 4 of the same prison. He was eventually released on bail on April 25, 2024.

In August 2023, Mr. Tabrizi was sentenced to one year in prison by the Shahriar Revolutionary Court on the charge of “propaganda against the regime.”

Civil Rights Advocate Yashar Tabrizi Receives One-Year Sentence

Yashar Tabrizi (Akbar Gholizadeh), a civil rights advocate and former political prisoner, has been handed a one-year prison sentence by the Shahriar Revolutionary Court.

The presiding judge, Barjesteh, relayed to Tabrizi’s legal counsel that his client had been sentenced to a year behind bars for charges related to “propaganda against the regime.” A reliable source indicates that Tabrizi is awaiting an additional verdict from the Shahriar Criminal Court on the allegation of “spreading falsehood.”

Following his arrest in Tehran on June 10, 2023, Tabrizi was transported to Ward 209 of Evin Prison. He secured his release from Evin Prison on bail after a 14-day period, pending the conclusion of legal procedures.

This civil rights advocate has faced previous detentions and convictions due to his activism.

 

Civil Rights Activist Yashar Tabrizi Arrested in Tehran

On June 10, 2023, Yashar Tabrizi, a civil rights activist and former political prisoner, was apprehended by security forces in Tehran and subsequently taken to an undisclosed location.

According to a reliable source who spoke with HRANA, Tabrizi’s residence in Shahriar was raided by six intelligence agents. During the operation, they conducted a search and seized various belongings belonging to Tabrizi and his family.

As of now, the specific reasons behind Tabrizi’s arrest and the allegations against him have not been made public.

It is worth noting that Yashar Tabrizi, also known as Akbar Gholizadeh, has a history of previous arrests and convictions stemming from his activism.

A Daily Overview of Human Rights Violations in Iran for December 28, 2018

The following is an overview of human rights violations in Iran on December 28th, 2018 based on the information compiled and verified by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA).

(1) Zahra Abbasi, a 16-year-old pregnant girl, self-immolated and died in Dishmok city in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. Five other women have self-immolated in Dishmok in the current year.

(2) During the last few days, 24 residents of Hendijan have been transferred to hospital for drinking contaminated water. They have been diagnosed with dysentery.

(3) Two Azerbaijani Turkic rights activists, Reza Jafarlou and Akbar Gholizadeh, who had been arrested on December 10th and detained in Urmia prison were released on bail. Three other activists, Oldouz Ghasemi, Amir Sattari, and Javad Ahmadi Yaekaneli were summoned to the Revolutionary Court in Naqadeh.

(4) Mohammad Saber Malek Reisi and Shir Ahmad Shirani, two political prisoners of Ardabil prison, who were returned to the prison after 12 days of interrogation, have been transferred to quarantine. They also have been barred from having visitors or phone calls.

(5) Seyed Mohammad Mohammadi, a political prisoner in the Evin prison, has served 14 months of his 2-year sentence. He was accused of ‘propaganda against the state’, ‘insulting the Supreme Leader’, and ‘insulting the authorities’.

(6) More than 40 students of an elementary school in Babol have been poisoned. Students with food poisoning symptoms have been hospitalized for treatment. The cause of the poisoning is unknown.

(7) Zahedan prisoners suffer from lack of access to adequate medical and mental health care, mistreatment by prisoners’ staff, malnutrition, quarantined when they complained about their situation, etc.

(8) Six firefighters were injured during an incident in Jey Industrial Zone in the central district of Isfahan

(9) Three protests and strikes have been organized on December 28, 2018. Nishabur public service workers, Farmers of Isfahan province, and staff of Islamic Azad University Meybod branch, requested their demands in separate protests.
