Matin Hasani Sent to Bukan Prison to Serve His Sentence

Today, August 26, 2024, Matin Hasani (Hassani), injured during the November 2019 protests, was sent to Bukan Prison to serve his sentence.

Mr. Hasani, who was injured during the November 2019 protests, was sentenced to 31 months in prison by the 101st Branch of the Criminal Court 2 of Bukan in July of this year.

On January 23, 2024, Hasani was arrested by security forces at his family home without a court order. He was released on bail from Bukan Prison on February 22, 2024.

His trial was held on May 16, 2024, in the 101st Branch of the Criminal Court 2 of Bukan, where he was charged with “inciting warfare and violence to disrupt national security, as well as propaganda against the regime.”

Hasani lost the sight in one of his eyes at the age of 19 when he was shot during the nationwide protests in Bukan in November 2019.

Two Members of Mohammad Hassanzadeh’s Family Arrested in Bukan

Kurdpa reports that on July 30, Ahmad Hassanzadeh and Solmaz Hassanzadeh, the father and sister of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, who was killed during the 2022 nationwide protests, were arrested by security forces in Bukan and taken to an unknown location.

The report states that these individuals were arrested by security forces with physical violence at their private residence in Bukan. The officers also confiscated the mobile phones of the father, daughter, and mother.

According to a source cited in the report, “This family was attempting to hold a ceremony to commemorate the birthday of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, who was killed during the 2022 nationwide protests. However, the security agencies prevented this and arrested them.”

As of the time of this report, the whereabouts and the charges against these citizens are unknown.

Ahmad Hassanzadeh and his approximately 30-year-old daughter, Solmaz, were summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence’s office in Bukan and interrogated on September 5, 2023.

Additionally, Ms. Hassanzadeh was arrested at a checkpoint between Bukan and Saqqez by security forces on September 27 last year and was released shortly thereafter.

It is worth noting that Mohammad Hassanzadeh, a 28-year-old resident of Bukan, was shot by regime forces during the 2022 nationwide protests and succumbed to his injuries on November 16 of the same year.

Hassan Amini Transferred to Sanandaj Prison to Serve Sentence

On July, Hassan Amini, the brother of Mohammad Amini, who was killed at the hands of regime forces during the 2022 nationwide protests, was arrested to serve his prison sentence and transferred to Sanandaj Prison, according to a report by Kurdpa.

In July 2023, Mr. Amini was sentenced by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court of Bukan to six months and fifteen days in prison and forty lashes for “disrupting public order.”

Amini was arrested by security forces on June 9th last year during a protest gathering at the burial place of Danial Pabandi, another victims during the the 2022 nationwide protests. He was released on bail from Bukan Prison after four days of detention.

According to published reports, Mohammad Amini was shot and killed by security forces on October 8, 2022, during protests in Sanandaj.

Othman Mameh Detained for Over 600 Days

Othman Mameh, a resident of Bukan in West Azerbaijan province, has been detained for over 600 days. The lack of information about his condition has heightened the concern of his family and acquaintances.

A source close to Mameh’s relatives confirmed this news to HRANA: “Despite 600 days passing since Mr. Mameh’s arrest and the family’s follow-ups with security and judicial authorities, the relevant officials refuse to provide a clear answer regarding his status. Mameh has not had any contact with his family since his arrest, which has added to the concerns of his family and acquaintances. The only response from security agencies is that if he had died, they would have been informed.”

Mameh, 55, was arrested by security forces in Bukan on November 18, 2022.

As of the time of this report, no information has been obtained regarding the reasons for his arrest, his place of detention, or the charges against him.

Matin Hasani Sentenced to Imprisonment on Political Charges

Matin Hasani, one of the injured individuals from the November 2019 protests, has been sentenced to thirty-one months in prison by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court of Bukan, as reported by Kurdpa.

The court session for addressing the charges against Hasani was held on May 16, 2024. He was charged with “inciting people to engage in warfare with the intent to disrupt national security” and “propaganda against the regime.”

Hasani was arrested by security forces on January 23, 2024, at his parent’s residence without a judicial warrant and was released from Bukan prison on February 22 of the same year after posting bail.

Matin Hasani, at the age of nineteen, lost vision in one eye due to a bullet shot during the nationwide protests of November 2019 in Bukan, West Azerbaijan province.

Mehdi Majidi Sentenced to Four Years and Eight Months

The prison sentence of Mehdi Majidi, a citizen from Bukan, has been upheld by the Court of Appeals of West Azerbaijan Province, according to Kurdpa. Initially, he had been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court 2 of Bukan.

Based on a ruling issued on Sunday, June 23, 2024, by the Urmia Court of Appeals, Mr. Majidi has been sentenced to three years in prison for “supporting the Israeli government”, one year for “propaganda against the regime,” and eight months for “insulting the Supreme Leader.” According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment for Majidi is enforceable.

Previously, on April 25, the initial sentence had been delivered to him by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court 2 of Bukan.

Mehdi Majidi was arrested by security forces on November 6, 2023, and transferred to one of Urmia’s security detention centers.

After being transferred to Bukan Prison, he was released on bail on December 28, 2023.

 

Jafar Amini Arrested in Bukan

Jafar (Dara) Amini, a resident of Bukan, West Azerbaijan province, was arrested by security forces on Saturday, June 15, and transferred to an unknown location, as reported by Kurdpa.

The arrest took place at his residence without a judicial warrant. So far, the family’s efforts to learn about Mr. Amini’s well-being and whereabouts have been unsuccessful.

The reasons for his arrest and the charges against him are still unknown.

Baha’i Resident Detained Without Legal Justification in Bukan

Agah Sadeghi, a Baha’i living in Bukan, West Azerbaijan province, has been detained for over three weeks amid legal uncertainty. His family remains uninformed about his condition, heightening their worries.

A source close to Sadeghi’s family confirmed to HRANA that he was arrested by security forces in Bukan three weeks ago. Despite repeated inquiries, Sadeghi’s family has received no information regarding his whereabouts or condition, intensifying their concerns. Following his arrest, security agents also raided his home, conducting a thorough search and confiscating personal items belonging to him and his family.

Baha’is are subjected to violations of their religious rights, comprising 82% of reports on infringements against religious minorities, according to HRA’s 2023 annual report.

The Baha’i faith is not recognized as a legitimate religion by Iranian authorities, leading to systematic and longstanding violations of the rights of Baha’is in the country. This includes the denial of their fundamental right to practice their religion, which constitutes a clear breach of both Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The United Nations covenant holds that every person has the right to freedom of religion, freedom of converting religion, as well as freedom of expression, individually or collectively; openly or secretly.

Hatav Akrami Detained by Security Forces in Bukan

On May 31, 2024, security forces arrested Hatav Akrami in Bukan and transferred her to an undisclosed location, according to Kurdpa.

Akrami was reportedly visiting Iran to attend a relative’s wedding. She was arrested at her parent’s house, where agents searched the premises and confiscated some of her personal items. The report also mentioned that Akrami’s Instagram page has become inaccessible after she published posts critical of the authorities.

Akrami’s whereabouts and the charges against her are unknown at this time.

 

Samku Nasrollahi Detained by Security Forces in Bukan

On March 24, 2024, security forces reportedly detained Samku (Samko) Nasrollahi in Bukan, West Azerbaijan province, and transferred him to an undisclosed facility, according to Krudpa.

The arrest of Nasrollahi, a 35-year-old father of two, allegedly occurred after his participation in a Nowruz ceremony in a village. No arrest warrant was presented by the agents.

Despite inquiries made by Nasrollahi’s family to the Ministry of Intelligence in Bukan, no clear answers have been provided regarding the allegations against him or his current whereabouts.
