Drug-Related Charges: A Prisoner Executed in Hamedan Prison

At dawn today, the execution of a prisoner previously sentenced to death on charges related to drug offenses was carried out in Hamedan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, Abolfazl Azadi was executed on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Based on information obtained by HRANA, Mr. Azadi was previously arrested on drug-related charges and later sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of the time of this report, prison and relevant authorities have not officially announced the execution.

According to data compiled by HRANA, 52.69% of all executions in Iran in 2024 were related to drug-related charges. Prolonged Detention of Political Detainee Morteza Khaki Despite Bail Provision

Morteza Khaki, a resident of Famenin County, Hamedan Province, remains in limbo in Hamedan Prison, 25 days after his arrest.

A source close to his family confirmed: “Mr. Khaki, facing charges including insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic, insulting the Supreme Leader, and insulting religious sanctities, has been detained for 25 days and remains in limbo in Hamedan Prison. Although a bail of one billion tomans was set and provided by his family, officials have refused to accept it, citing baseless excuses.”

HRANA has learned that Mr. Khaki’s bank account and mobile phone line have been frozen since October, and his Instagram account remains blocked following his arrest.

Morteza Khaki, 48 years old, married, and a father of two, was arrested on Monday, November 25, after reporting to the Ministry of Intelligence Office in Kabudarahang. He was transferred to Hamedan Prison three days later.

Three Prisoners Executed in Hamedan Prison for Drug-Related Charges

On November 21, three prisoners who had previously been sentenced to death for drug-related charges were executed in Hamedan Prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists in Iran, the identities of the prisoners hanged at dawn on Thursday, November 21, 2024, have been confirmed as Arslan Habibi, Jabbar Keyfari, and Amir-Hossein Rostami.

HRANA’s information indicates that the three prisoners had been arrested on drug-related charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.

As of the time of this report, the executions have not been officially announced by prison authorities or responsible institutions.

Eight Prisoners Executed in Various Prisons Across Iran

On November 4 and 5, eight prisoners were executed in the prisons of Kahnuj, Hamedan, Yazd, and Adelabad in Shiraz.

According to HRANA, on November 4, Mansour Rastakhiz was executed in Kahnuj Prison on a murder charge. That same day, Alireza Jamshidi from Shiraz and Mohammadreza Sotoodeh from Fasa were executed on drug-related charges in Adelabad Prison, Shiraz.

Additionally, in the early hours of November 5, the death sentences of Dariush Saeedi and Hamed Mehraban, both convicted of murder, were carried out. Dariush Saeedi, 32, had been detained five years earlier for a murder committed during a group conflict and was sentenced to death by the judiciary. He was also sentenced to death in a separate case for allegedly killing another inmate during a prison altercation. Hamed Mehraban, 38, was arrested six years ago for the murder of his wife and later sentenced to death by the judiciary.

According to Haal Vsh, three more prisoners were executed at dawn today, November 5, in Yazd Prison. One of the executed individuals was identified as “Mohsen Nejadi Moghaddam (Sabaki),” 30, married with two children, and a resident of Rigan.

The report states that Mr. Nejadi Moghaddam was arrested in 2021 in Yazd on drug-related charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court in Yazd. On Sunday, he and two other prisoners had been transferred to solitary confinement in Yazd Prison in preparation for their executions.

Two Prisoners Executed in Hamedan Prison for Drug Offenses

At dawn on October 16, two prisoners, including a woman, were executed in Hamedan Prison after being sentenced to death on drug-related charges.

HRANA has identified one of the executed prisoners as Rasoul Fili. Both individuals had been arrested on drug charges and sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court.

As of this report, the executions have not been officially confirmed by prison authorities or other relevant institutions.

Prisoner Executed in Hamedan Prison

At dawn on September 1, 2024, a prisoner who had been sentenced to death on murder charges was executed in Hamedan Prison.

HRANA has identified the individual as Saber Jamali, 29 years old, from Kangavar. According to information received by HRANA, Mr. Jamali had been arrested on murder charges and subsequently sentenced to death by the judiciary.

As of the time of this report, prison officials and relevant authorities have not announced the execution of this prisoner.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Execution of Inmate for Drug Offenses in Hamedan Prison

On June 12, 2024, an inmate convicted of drug offenses was executed at Hamedan Prison.

The individual has been identified by HRANA as Homayoun Salami.

Zhina Modarresi Gorji Receives 21-Year Prison Sentence

The Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj sentenced Zhina (Jina) Modarresi Gorji to 21 years in prison and mandated her exile, as reported by the Coordination Council of Iranian Teachers’ Trade Associations.

The sentence comprises ten years for “forming illegal groups aimed at overthrowing the regime,” ten years for “collaborating with hostile countries and groups,” and one year for “propaganda against the regime.” Additionally, the court decreed her imprisonment to be served in exile at Hamedan Prison. The case has also been referred to the Criminal Court of Sanandaj to consider further charges, including “disseminating false information” and “inciting people to violence.”

This ruling was notably influenced by reports from the Ministry of Intelligence.

Also, on April 16, 2024, authorities closed Gorji’s bookstore in response to alleged violations of hijab regulations enforced by the Department of Public Safety.

Gorji was initially arrested by security forces on April 10, 2023, in Sanandaj and held at Sanandaj Correctional Prison until her release on bail on July 3, 2023. She had also been previously detained in September 2022 but was released on bail on October 30 of that year.

On April 14, 2024, Hamedan Prison carried out the execution of an inmate convicted of drug offenses.

According to HRANA, the inmate was identified as Arsalan Hashemi. He had been sentenced to death for drug-related crimes three years prior.
