Wahab Khadiri Pour Sentenced to Prison by Mahabad Revolutionary Court

HRANA News Agency – Wahab Khadiri Pour, a resident of Mahabad, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison by the city’s Revolutionary Court.

According to HRANA, quoting Kolbar News, Mr. Khadiri Pour was sentenced to prison on the charge of alleged collaboration with one of the opposition parties.

He had been arrested on January 19, 2025, following a summons by the Mahabad office of the Ministry of Intelligence. After his interrogation, he was transferred from The Ministry of Intelligence’s detention facility to Mahabad Prison. He was released from Mahabad Prison on February 20, 2025, after posting bail.

Wahab Khadiri Pour, 32, is the father of two children. He is also the cousin of Shomal Khadiri Pour, one of the victims killed during the 2022 nationwide protests.

Two Prisoners Executed in Mahabad Prison

HRANA News Agency – At dawn on February 20, 2025, the death sentences of two prisoners convicted in separate cases of rape and murder were carried out in Mahabad Prison.

HRANA has identified the executed prisoners as Shahin Mahdavi and Soran Aminpour. According to available information, Mahdavi was sentenced to death for rape, while Aminpour was convicted of murder.

Both prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement a day before their executions.

As of the time of this report, prison authorities and relevant institutions have not publicly confirmed the executions.

In 2024, the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran documented 812 cases related to the right to life, including the sentencing of 214 individuals to death and the execution of 930 individuals. Among these, 4 executions were carried out in public. Of those executed, 818 were male, 26 were female, and 5 were juvenile offenders—individuals under 18 years old at the time of their alleged crimes.

Amir Bayazidi Azar and Ghasem Azizian Summoned and Sent to Prison to Endure Their Sentences

Amir Bayazidi Azar and Ghasem Azizian, both of Mahabad City, were summoned to Mahabad Prison this past week to serve their respective sentences. Azar left on Saturday to begin a three month sentence, while Azizan left Monday to serve a 28 month sentence.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, both men had previously been tried and sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad, and both verdicts were upheld on appeal.

Azar was arrested by security forces on January 16, 2021. After being held for three days in the detention centre of the Ministry of Intelligence, he was relocated to Mahabad prison. On February 7, 2021, he was released on bail. Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court sentenced him to three months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime”.

Similarly, Azizian was arrested by security forces on May 21, 2021. After interrogation, he was transferred to Mahabad prison. On July 19, 2021, he was released on bail. Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court sentenced him to 28 months in prison on charges of “membership in an opposing political party”.

Sunni Prisoner Zaher Roozkhun Released on Bail

On Thursday, October 14, Sunni prisoner Zaher Roozkhun was released temporarily on bail until the end of criminal proceedings.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, Mahabad resident Zaher Roozkhun was released on bail for 350 million tomans (approx. 13,000 US dollars). He has been denied access to lawyer and family visitation during the detention.

Roozkhun had been previously arrested by security forces before too on August 29, 2021. After completing the interrogation process, he was sent from a detention center in Urmia to Mahabad Prison.

As of writing this, the reason for his arrest and the charges is unknown.

 

Saeed Fathi Nejad Sentenced to Three Years and 7 Months in Prison

The Revolutionary Court of Mahabad sentenced Saeed Fathi Nejad, a citizen currently detained in Mahabad Prison, to three years and seven months in prison.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa, Mr. Fathi Nejad received this sentence on a charge of “membership in an opposition group”.

He was arrested by security forces in mid-June without a court order and was transferred to Mahabad Prison after being interrogated.

28-year-old Saeed Fathi Nejad has been denied access to a lawyer and family visits during his detention.

COVID-19 Spreads in Mahabad Prison in West Azerbaijan Province

Observations of symptoms of the coronavirus among inmates has raised concerns about the virus’s spread within the public ward of Mahabad Prison

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Mukrian News Agency, several inmates have been denied medical treatment despite having deteriorating health and symptoms of the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, prison officials have refused to provide even symptomatic inmates with COVID tests, and several prisoners in the public ward of the prison have severe symptoms.

“Several prisoners suffer from Corona and are in critical condition,” the report quoted a prisoner as saying.

 

Suleiman Karimpour Sent to Mahabad Prison to Serve out 2-Year Sentence

On May 18, Soleiman Karimpour, a citizen of Mahabad in the West Azerbaijan province, was sent  to Mahabad Prison on charges of “collaborating with one of the opposition parties”.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Kurdpa,  Karimpour was sentenced by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court to two years in prison, and the confiscation of a private car. The sentence was later upheld by the Court of Appeals.

in September 2020, Suleiman Karimpour was arrested by security forces and later transferred from the IRGC Intelligence Detention Center to Mahabad Prison. He was released on bail in December 2020.

Per the report, Karimpour was denied a lawyer and family visits during his detention.

HRANA News Agency – It has been reported that the situation of medical facilities in Mahabad prison is very inappropriate and lack of medical staff has put the ill prisoners in trouble.

Pressures Grow on Prisoners of Mahabad Prison

HRANA News Agency – The misbehavior of Mahabab prison authorities has increased in the past month. Frequent inspections, humiliation and obscenity and beating the prisoners are the issues which have been repeatedly happened many times in this prison during the past month.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the authorities of Mahabab prison inspect the rooms and suites of prisoners frequently because of unknown reasons and in most cases these inspections end to the humiliation and beating the prisoners.
