Prisoners ordered to pay for eavesdropping equipment

HRANA News Agency – Authorities have ordered all inmates to pay for setting up eavesdropping equipment for the prison facility in Zahedan.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the authorities have threatened to cut off the phone system if prisoners refuse to pay for the equipment. (more…)

Authorities deny medical treatment to Mohammad Reza Pour-Shajari

HRANA News Agency – Although doctors have recommended urgent medical treatment for Mohammad Reza Pour-Shajari, the authorities are preventing his transfer to a hospital outside the prison.  Pour-Shajari (Siamak Mehr) is a imprisoned blogger and a political activist.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), two doctors, Gholizade and Nejadbahram, at Karaj central prison have recommended Pour-Shajari to be hospitalized immediately because of his serious breathing problems since two weeks ago. (more…)

Zahra Mansouri has to return to prison

HRANA News Agency – The political prisoner Zahra (Mahboubeh) Mansouri has been summoned to return to Evin Prison.  Mansouri is currently on medical furlough, receiving chemotherapy.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Zahra Mansouri, 60, is a political prisoner who was granted furlough to receive chemotherapy for her breast cancer.  She has now been summoned to return to prison. (more…)

Political Activist remains in custody without being charged

HRANA News Agency – Reza Akbari-Monfared has been in custody for four months without being formally charged with any crimes.  Akbari-Monfared is a political activist whose family members were executed during the mass killings of 1980s in Iran.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Akbari-Monfared was arrested on Jan. 15, 2013 together his son, Ali, and has been locked up in Ward 209 of Evin Prison ever since.  His sister, Maryam, was arrested during the protests following the 2009 presidential elections in Iran and sentenced to 15 years in prison.  His son, Ali, was released from prison last March after posting bail.

Akbari-Monfared was a political prisoner in 1980s, and four members of her family were executed during the same time.  Ali-Reza, 20, Gholam-Reza, 26, Roghihe, 30, and Abdual-Reza, 23, were all hanged in the 80s.
