HRANA – On Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 6:30 a.m., an oil rig in the region of Naftshahr in Kurdestan province caught fire.
Three workers were killed and ten were injured. The governor of Ghasr-e-Shirin, Mr. Bahram Teymouri, told the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) that four of the injured were in critical condition and were relocated to other cities for better medical care. The other six were released after receiving treatment.
Mr. Teymouri said that the fire was of such magnitude that the local fire engines were not capable of extinguishing it.The governor also said that the fire did not threaten other oil wells or nearby oil and gas industrial facilities.The cause of the fire was not clear at the time of the report but experts suspect ground subsidence as the reason for the incident.
