8 Political Prisoners on Hunger Strike in Evin and Rajai Shahr Prisons

HRANA News Agency – Following prisoners’ protests against compulsory stay in prison courtyard “to get some fresh air” in winter weather while prisoners do not have appropriate warm cloth, 8 political prisoners in ward 8 of Evin prison were transferred to solitary confinements and subsequently, they went on hunger strike. Recent news suggests that, Saeid Shirzad has been beaten and transferred to Rajai Shahr prison, in Karaj.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA), following a guild complain by prisoners in ward 8 of Evin prison regarding a compulsory use of ward courtyard in the cold weather while there is a lack of warm clothing, on Monday noon, Aso Rostami, Amir Amirgholi and Amir Hushang Navaei, were taken to solitary confinements and so they went on hunger strike.
In support of these three prisoners, Omid Alishenas, Saeid Shirzad and Masood Arab Choobdar, also went on hunger strike and stated that they will continue their hunger strike until other inmates would be back to their ward and their guild demands would be considered.
These three political prisoners were then transferred to solitary confinements at the same night.  Hamid Babaei, who was transferred, a few hours before, from ward 7 to ward 8 of Evin Prison, and Abbas Rostami were transferred to solitary confinements, as well.
According to the latest reports, these 8 political prisoners are held in solitary confinements in ward 240 and they are all on hunger strike.
On Tuesday 17th February, Saeid Shirzad was beaten and transferred to Rajai Shahr prison, in Karaj, while he was shackled and handcuffed, and blindfolded.
An informed source told HRANA’s reporter, “He has not been transferred to Rajai Shar prison’s quarantine, so far and probably he has been taken to solitary confinement in ward 8 (known as Revolutionary Guards’ ward).”
