The Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced Saeedeh Mohammadi to five years in prison and banned her from leaving the country for two years. In late September, she was arrested at protests by security forces and jailed in Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Saeedeh Mohammadi was sentenced to five years in prison.
Mohammadi is still jailed since she cannot afford to pay bail.
Since the outbreak of nationwide protests, over 18400, including journalists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. For more details and statistics on the nationwide protest across Iran, read the latest HRANAs comprehensive report here.

Since the outbreak of nationwide protests, over 18400, including journalists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. For more details and statistics on the nationwide protest across Iran, read the latest HRANAs comprehensive report here.
Recently, the Tabriz Revolutionary Court sentenced Pouria Pour-Hemmati to three years and banned him from leaving the country for two years. He was previously arrested in Tabriz on September 20, 2022.
According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, Pouria Pour-Hemmati was sentenced to three years in prison on the charge of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security.”
On September 20, 2022, Pour-Hemmati was arrested at protests by Basij Militia forces and IRGC intelligence agents. He was detained in one of IRGC’s detention facilities and, after six days, transferred to Tabriz Prison. On October 1, 2022, he was released on a 200-millions-toman bail.
Pour-Hemmati, age 37, is a mechanical engineer and resident of Tabriz.
Dozens of Iranian people arrested at recent protests either have been sentenced to death or have faced charges such as “armed insurrection against the regime (Baghi)”, “enmity against God (Moharebeh)”, or “spreading corruption on the earth”. Charges which may result in death penalty. At the time of this writing, 2 protestors have been executed, 11 others have been sentenced to death and 47 others are facing charges that could lead to death sentences. This report provides the legal case details of 58 of these individuals.
Several arrested individuals have been accused of “leading protests” by the Judicial officials. Allegations that have resulted in charges such as Baghi, Moharebeh, and Spreading Corruption on earth.
At the time of this writing, HRANA can verify the issuance of 11 death sentences against imprisoned protestors as enlisted in this report. The other 47 people listed below are under the impending threat of death sentence.
Due to the lack of transparency in the judicial process, in many cases opened by security institutions against the protestors, the identities of some co-defendants remain undisclosed. For example, reports obtained by HRANA about a legal case over an incident during protests in the Ekbatan town of Tehran that led to the death of a Basij Militia agent, Arman Aliverdi, indicate that there are nine co-defendants. Nonetheless, HRANA has been able to identify only two of them. Similarly, in another legal case regarding protests in two neighborhoods in Isfahan that led to the death of three security forces (Col. Esmail Cheraghi, Mohammad Hossein Karimi, and two Basij Militia individuals Mohammad-Hossein Karimi and Mohsen Hamidi), HRANA could identify only 6 out of 10 co-defendants.
It is worth noting that at the time of this writing, the executions of two protestors, Mohsen Shekari and Majid-Reza Rahnavard, were carried out following an extremely quick and non-transparent judicial process, Mohsen and Majid-Reza did not even have access to chosen lawyers at their trials. Mohsen Shekari was executed in Tehran after 74 days of detention on December 8, 2022, and Majid-Reza Rahnavard was publicly executed by being hanged in Mashhad on December 12, 2022, only 23 days after his arrest.
The following enlists legal case details of 58 detainees who are either sentenced to death or at risk of receiving a death sentence.

The Criminal Court of Zahedan sentenced 16-year-old Nazanin Ahmadipour to six months in prison and paying a fine. On October 28, 2022, security forces arrested Ahmadipour at protests in Chabahar and released her after twenty days of detention.
According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Haal Vsh, teenager Nazanin Ahmadipour was sentenced to six months and a 25-million-toman fine on the charge of “propaganda against the regime and participating in protests and inciting people to protests.”
Since the outbreak of nationwide protests, about 18400, including journalists, lawyers, teachers, students and civil rights activists, have been arrested. For more details and statistics on the nationwide protest across Iran, read the latest HRANAs comprehensive report here.
On December 19, 2022, security forces arrested Baha’i Mona Ghodrat in Yazd.
An informed source told HRANA that Ghodrat was arrested in the street and taken to IRGC’s detention facility. The agents also searched her home and confiscated some of her belonging.
Ghodrat is 39 years old and the mother of two children.
The reason for her arrest and the charges are still unknown.
Baha’i citizens are denied the right to exercise their religion. This systematic deprivation stands in violation of Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which both affirm that everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion.
According to unofficial reports, there are more than 300,000 Baha’is in Iran. While the constitution recognizes Islam, Christianity, Judaism, and Zoroastrianism as accepted religions (People of Book, as articulated in Sharia law), it denies recognizing the Baha’i faith, which conclusively leads to the systematic violation of their rights.
The Shiraz Revolutionary Court recently sentenced Elham Afkari to five years in prison and barred her from leaving the country and social activities on the Internet for two years. She was previously arrested during recent protests by security forces in Shiraz.
According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, IRGC-affiliated news agency Tasnim reported that Elham Afkari was sentenced to five years in prison.
Tasnim’s report mentioned the charges as “intention to cause unrest and disruption via spreading the calls for protests on the Internet.” An informed source, however, told HRANA that Afkari and her lawyer have not yet been notified about the issuance of this sentence.
On November 10, 2022, Afkari was arrested in Shiraz. In protest against her arrest, she went on a hunger strike. She is currently jailed in Adel-Abad Prison.
Elham Afkari’s brother, Navid Afkari is a famous wrestler who was executed on September 12, 2020.
On December 17, 2022, Raha Ajodani, a non-binary teenager, was arrested by security forces in Tehran and reportedly transferred to a youth detention centre.
According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on December 17, 2022, Raha Ajodani was arrested in Tehran.
An informed source told HRANA, Ajodani was arrested while leaving her home. The agents searched the house and confiscated some of her belongings.
“Since her registered gender does not match her gender identity, it is unclear in which section for boys or girls, Ajodani has been sent, raising her family concerns,” this informed source added.
Despite frequent family inquiries, the reason for her arrest and the charges are unknown.
Earlier, on October 26, 2022, Ajodani was arrested at recent protests and released after a few hours.
On December 18, security forces arrested the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reporter Maryam Ghannad in Tehran and detained her in Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, on December 18, 2022, IRNA reporter Maryam Ghannad was arrested by security forces in Tehran.
An informed source close to her family told HRANA that she was once allowed a short call informing her family that she is held in Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
The reason for her arrest and the charges are still unknown.
