Documentary Filmmaker and Women’s Rights Activist Arrested

HRANA News Agency – This morning, on June 26, 2011, Mahnaz Mohammadi, a documentary filmmaker and women’s rights activist, was arrested.

According to the Committee of Human Right Reporters, this morning, following a raid on her home, Mahnaz Mohammadi was arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location.The identity of the arresting officers and the reason for this arrest are not known.

Previously, on December 29, 2009, Mahnaz Mohammadi together with Jafar Panahi, Rokhsareh Ghaem Maghami and a few other movie producers were arrested when a group of directors and documentary filmmakers visited Tehran’s Behesht-Zahra Cemetery to place flowers on the graves of those killed in the events following Iran’s presidential election.

“Women Without Shadows” is Mahnaz Mohammadi’s most notable documentary for which she received many awards in Iran and abroad.Recently, Mahnaz Mohammadi and Rakhshan Bani-Etemad in collaboration with each other made the documentary film titled “We Are Half of Iran’s Population.”This documentary explores the demands of Iranian women in the presidential election.

HRANA News Agency – Dayeh Saltaneh, Farzad Kamangar’s mother, has released a message on the occasion of Nowruz [the Persian New Year]. Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) has translated this message from Kurdish to Farsi and released it. The exact message reads as follows:

Last Nowruz, when I went to Evin Prison anticipating my son’s release, he was saying to me with high hopes, “Mother, Nowruz will certainly be the day of freedom, and we will celebrate it together.” Alas, they took my child from me.

Abdolhamid Rigi Was Executed

HRANA – The Judiciary of the State of Sistan and Baluchestan announced the execution of Abdolhamid Rigi this morning.

Ebrahim Hamidi, the head of the State’s judiciary, said: “According to the sentence issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Zahedan, Abdolhamid Rigi, brother of Abdolmalek Rigi, the leader of Jandollah, was hanged in Zahedan.”

Ebrahim Hamidi added: “Abdolhamid Rigi had been sentenced to execution on charges of “moharebeh” (waging war against God) and “corruption on earth” through membership, support and effective participation in the armed branch of Jandollah.”

According to Fars, the sentence issued for Abdolhamid Rigi was carried out this morning, Monday, May 24, 2010, in Zahedan prison after being affirmed by the highest judicial authorities.

Abdolhamid Rigi was the second highest ranking officer in the group Jandollah and was active in the organization’s armed unit. He was arrested by security forces in Pakistan in June 2008.

The leader of Jandollah, Abdolmalek Rigi is also in prison and awaiting trial.

A Prisoner Hanged in Shahr-e Kord, Iran

HRANA News Agency – a prisoner convicted of rape was hanged in Shahr-e Kord Central Prison.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), quoted from IRIB News, local judiciary authority in Shahr-e Kord informed a prisoner convicted of raping a 21 male citizen was hanged on Sunday, January 13, 2013.

Ahmad Bahrami said: “the person who was hanged and his friends kidnapped a 21 years old boy and raped him while video tapped it by mobile.”

“Pardon and Forgiving Committee rejected the pardon requests for them two times. one of them was sentenced to death and others 100 lashes in public.” He added.

There have been hanged 6 prisoners convicted of rape since the first of this year (Persian calendar) in Chahar Mahal-o Bakhtiari Province.

No information about Milad Dehghan, from his arrest up to now

HRANA News Agency – There is no information about political activist, Milad dehghan, a member of Pan-Iranist Party who was arrested in Ahwaz on Sunday, December 9, 2012.
According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Milad dehghan, a member of Pan-Iranist Party was arrested in Ahwaz and at the same time the houses of his father and his uncle were searched by security forces and they seized his personal things.
There is no more information about his charge(s) and the place he has been held, up to now.

Six Kurdish Citizens Were Sentenced to 15 Year in Prison

HRANA News Agency – Six Kurdish Citizens Were Sentenced prison in Mahabad city by the Appeals Court.
According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), quoted from Mokerian News Agency, six Kurdish citizens in Mahabad, Iran: Samko Osmani, Ali Borna, Osman Ghader Nejad, Soleyman Rahimzadeh, Anvar Izad Doust and Mohamad Izad Doust on charges related to National Security were sentenced to prison by the Appeals Court.
Soleyman Rahimzadeh were sentenced to 4 year in prison, Ali Borna an Osman Ghader Nejad 4 years for each, Anvar and Mohamad Izad Doust, 4 year for each and Samko, 1.5 year.

Blogger Rojin Mohammadi Arrested Upon Arrival

HRANA News Agency – Blogger Rojin Mohammadi was arrested after returning to Iran and was then transferred to Evin Prison.Rojin Mohammadi is a medical student at the University of Manila (UM) in Philippines.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), on November 14, 2011, Rojin Mohammadi flew from Istanbul to Tehran.Upon arriving at the airport, she was arrested by Iranian security agents and taken to Evin Prison.

Rojin Mohammadi was released on bail after being detained for 24 hours.Five days later, on November 19, 2011, security agents raided her father’s house in Kermanshah in order to arrest her again.However, since she was not home at the time of the raid, the police failed to take her into custody.

On November 21, 2011, Rojin Mohammadi was summoned by phone to Shahid Moghadasi Court in Evin Prison, and her personal belongings including a computer were confiscated.She was interrogated for 3 consecutive days and finally arrested again on November 23, 2011 and locked up behind bars in Evin Prison.

So far, Iranian officials have not announced the reason for this arrest or the charges against Rojin Mohammadi.Furthermore, the exact location of the arrest and the length of detention aren’t precisely known.

Labor Activist Ali Nejati Sentenced to One Year in Prison

HRANA News Agency – The Ahvaz Appeals Court, Branch 13, has sentenced Ali Nejati to one year in prison.Ali Nejati is one of the board members of Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Company Workers’ Trade Union.

According to a report by Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), this verdict is handed down despite the fact that Ali Nejati has already served six months in the Fajr Prison of Dezful for the same charge.While he was in prison, Ali Nejati was summoned to court to be tried again on charges for which he was behind bars.

According to a report by the website of the Coordinating Committee to Create Labor Organizations, after Ali Nejati’s prison term was over, prosecutors attempted to try him again, but the charges were dismissed by the court since they were repetitive.

After the acquittal, because of the prosecutor’s objection and pressure from intelligence officials, Ali Nejati’s case was once again referred to the appeals court at the provincial capital.

About three years ago, Ali Nejati was fired from his job at Haft Tapeh Sugarcane Company after working there for over 25 years.Consequently, he has also been suffering financially and has lost the means to support himself.Ali Nejati suffers from heart problems and the clogging of arteries.After his most recent heart surgery, he has been receiving medical care for several months.
