HRANA News Agency – Esmaeil Shaverdi (Khanafareh), an employee of Shadegan municipality in Khouzestan province, committed self-immolation due to financial problems and after not receiving his salary for 6 months.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Esmaeil Shaverdi (Khonafareh), 30, married and the employee of Shadegan municipality, committed self-immolation on May 27 after not receiving his salary for 6 months.
An informed source told HRANA’s reporter, “Esmaeil was the sole breadwinner of the family. Not receiving his salary for 6 months and living under pressures are the reasons of this suicide”.
Need to be mentioned, about a week earlier, many of municipality employees, including Esmaeil Shaverdi started hunger strike in protest to not being paid, but authorities have ignored these request.
Previously, other employees have committed suicide for similar reasons such as unemployment and financial difficulties in Khouzestan province. Younes Asakereh committed suicide by self- immolation in front of municipality office in protest to wrecking his booth in March 2015, and died.
Omid Rashedi Amiri, 36, resident of Ramshir also committed self-immolation in protest for being fired, on September 23, 2015, and died.
Mehdi Mojdam, a 32-year-old Arab resident of Ahvaz had also committed self-immolation in front of governor office, on April 16, 2011, and died two days later.
