Last Efforts to Stop 6 Sunni Prisoners’ Execution

HRANA News Agency – Although the authorities transferred 6 Sunni prisoners to solitary confinements spontaneously, human rights activists are doing their best to convince the authorities to halt their execution.

According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Molana Mohammad Hossein Gorgij, a well-known Sunni Imam in Iran has urged the Iranian authorities to halt the execution of these 6 prisoners.

“While I was happy of being informed that he execution of a Baluch priosners has been stopped, there are news of execution of 6 Sunni prisoners being published, though I urge the authorities to halt these executions.” He wrote in a letter

Amnesty International has also released a statement demanding Iranian authorities to stop the 6 Sunni prisoners’ execution.

“This horrific final farewell does not have to happen. We’re appealing urgently to the Iranian authorities to halt the execution of these men, and quash their death sentences which followed grossly unfair trials,” said Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, Deputy Middle East and North Africa Director at Amnesty International.

Tens of human rights activists have also joined the families of 6 prisoners in front of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj to appeal the authorities to halt the execution.

On the other hand, Hamed Ahmadi, Kamal Molai, Jamshid Dehghani, Jahangir Dehghani, Sedigh Mohammadi and Seyed Hadi Hosseini and more than 70 other Sunni prisoners have gone on hunger strike since this morning.
