A Prisoner Committed Suicide in Rajai Shahr Prison

HRANA News Agency – One of the non-political prisoners in Rajai Shahr prison, in Karaj, hanged himself in prison clinic.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Gholam Koonani, a non-political prisoner in Rajai Shahr prison, in Karaj, on 3rd February, Hanged himself in prison clinic and passed away.
This prisoner, whose 2 brothers and one of his relatives had been executed during the last year on charges of armed robbery, had just 5 months left of his sentence.
An informed source in this regard, told HRANA’s reporter: “During last week he was transferred to ward 3 from ward 6 in Rajai Shahr prison, but as he felt that he is in danger by new inmates, and Mr Amirian (prison director), refused to send him back to ward 6, he attempted to kill himself by drug “Shisheh or Glass” (Methamphetamine) overdosing, but other inmates noticed that quickly and transferred him to prison clinic.
He added: “He saw Amirian and Amirian refused his transfer request, again, then he was asked to stay at prison clinic that night and then in the morning be transferred to prison’s security office because of his attempt to suicide, but his dead  body was found in the clinic’s wing.”
Gholamreza Koonani was held in prison since 4 years ago on charge of armed robbery and had only 5 months left to finish his sentence.
