Dozens Arrested as Truckers’ Strikes Spread Across Iran

HRANA News Agency –At least 20 truckers and supporters have been arrested in connection with a wave of truckers’ strikes that began on May 22 in cities across Iran, including Sanandaj, Eslamabad-e Gharb, Kermanshah, Rasht, Bandar Imam Khomeini, Bandar Lengeh, and Shiraz.

The strikes, launched in protest of longstanding grievances over working conditions and economic pressures, have drawn a strong security response. Among those detained are Sediq Mohammadi and Shahab Darabi, arrested in Sanandaj and Eslamabad-e Gharb respectively. The whereabouts of Mohammadi remain unknown.

The National Union of Truckers and Drivers has released several statements confirming the arrest of at least 11 drivers in Kermanshah and several others in Sanandaj. The union also reported violent police tactics, including the use of pepper spray against striking drivers at the Sanandaj terminal.

In Rasht, the IRGC’s Gilan provincial office announced the arrest of a citizen for allegedly supporting the strike. The individual was accused of “disrupting the order and security of road transport” and “aiding opposition groups” through negative portrayals of the situation.

The IRGC in Khuzestan Province reported the arrest of two individuals in Bandar Imam Khomeini on similar charges. State media later aired what appeared to be their forced confessions.

Authorities in Bandar Lengeh also arrested a citizen for allegedly producing and distributing videos encouraging strike participation. Police claimed the videos were shared with foreign media outlets.

In Shiraz, the local prosecutor confirmed the detention of several drivers, accusing them of “deliberate and organized disruption” of the transportation system. No specific number of detainees was disclosed.

16-Year-Old Teenager Arrested by Security Forces in Bandar Lengeh

HRANA – On Tuesday, March 25, Yousef Rasaneh, a 16-year-old teenager, was arrested by security forces in Bandar Lengeh County, Hormozgan province, and taken to an undisclosed location.

According to HRANA, citing the Baloch Activists Campaign, Rasaneh is a resident of Firoozabad village in Rask County. The report states that Rasaneh had traveled to a district of Bandar Lengeh, for work. Security forces from the Ministry of Intelligence raided his resting place and arrested him without presenting any judicial warrant.

As of this report, there is no information about the reason for his arrest or his current whereabouts.

Two Prisoners Executed in Bandar Abbas Prison

On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, two death-row prisoners convictied of charges related to drug offenses and murder were executed in Bandar Abbas Prison.

HRANA has identified these prisoners as “Abdollah Lashtghooni from Bandar Khamir and Hamed Mozaffari from Bandar Lengeh.”

Based on information received by HRANA, Mr. Lashtghooni had been sentenced to death for drug-related charges, while Mr. Mozaffari was sentenced to death for murder.

These prisoners were transferred to solitary confinement yesterday, along with a third prisoner, in preparation for the execution. The third prisoner, who was also sentenced to death for murder, was returned to the ward.

As of the time this report was compiled, the execution of these prisoners has not been officially announced by prison authorities or relevant institutions.

According to the Department of Statistics and Publication of Human Rights Activists in Iran, in 2023, at least 767 citizens, including 21 women and 2 juvenile offenders, were executed. Of these, the executions of 7 individuals were carried out in public. Additionally, during this period, 172 others were sentenced to death, with 5 of them sentenced to public execution. It is worth noting that during the same period, the initial death sentences of 49 other individuals were also upheld by the Supreme Court.

Two Workers Killed, One Severely Injured Due to Unsafe Workplace Conditions

On December 2, two workplace accidents in Qom and Bandar Lengeh cities left two workers dead and one severely injured.

According to HRANA, the news agency of Human Rights Activists, quoting Tasnim News Agency, a lift inside a food production factory based in Qom City malfunctioned and fell, leading to the death of a female worker inside.

“Following this accident, the judiciary ordered closure of the factory until safety deficiencies are fixed,” the Director-General of Cooperatives, Labor and Social Welfare of Qom City commented.

The same day, two fishermen in Bandar Lengeh City died after four fishing boats caught fire.

“Around 13:30, in a wharf, due to a technical problem in the engine, a fishing boat caught on fire and the fire spread to three adjacent boats. In this accident, a fisherman lost his life and another was severely injured,” commented Bandar Lengeh’s governor, Ahmad Sheybani.
